DS1 6yo Yr2, very smart and articulate boy, a wonderfull creative imagination...
...but such a bloody annoying array of sounds, so loud too.
Bangs
Explosions
Whoshing sounds
Screaching
Screaming
Whooping
Clicking
I could go on and on but the ultimate worst is his Sonic Boom.
He's so bloody loud, DH and I are forever sushing him, telling him to be quiet, shouting shut up.
Bathtime is the worst, there are epic battles going on in the water and his sounds echo off the tiles and give me a dull headache.
I feel like I'm nagging him and on his case all the time.
Tell me he's not the only one...

he's not the only one! The bathtimes you describe are exactly what it's like here - my ears feel like they're bleeding with the sounds and shouting echoing round the room!
I, too, have had to make an effort to stop telling him to be quiet because, after all, they're only children!!!
Definitely not alone there!

my ds also whistles - in tune and very melodic but it's a constant sound inbetween the chatter and whooping!

I have an 8 year old DS that does the sound effects thing.
It mainly washes over me but DH and I do discourage it now, especially when in public. OK so he is showing imagination which is great BUT at 8 years old it is getting to the point where it will get him picked on by other kids which is obviously not good.

It can be very annoying and I completely get where you are coming from.

We currently use a star chart reward system and while out we give longer and longer periods for him not to do it, with loss of a star threatened if he starts before the time we say. We don't push the issue at home.
Having said that there are plenty of times where we have snapped when it gets too much.

He has done this for years now, shouting and shushing him just results in him shouting back so we had to re-think, hence the star chart.

Oh yes, tarzan noises (don't know where that came from- he's never seen Tarzan!!), bear noises and snorting.
He also used to do the loud bath time,so now he has showers!!!
Peace and quiet to us all!!

my dd has just started doing this, it really does hurt my brain

LostGirl · 17/11/2009 16:08

dd(6) is just like this. The latest noise to her repertoire is to start quacking really loudly at totally random times.

Have you stolen my son, I thought it was only mine we call it pachao pachao in our house,
and if its not pachao pachao, he's constantly humming music to something at the minute its all the music in club penguin, actually I just heard a delivery truck pulling up there now and crashing into the wall, it is funny but at can grate too!

samsonthecat · 17/11/2009 16:11

My DD1 (4) is like this. It really annoys me first thing in the morning before I have had tea. Other times of the day they just wash over me.

BugInMySalad · 17/11/2009 16:42

You are describing my ds, also 6. Everything is just so loud and high pitched. Usually at the same time as dd1 trying to explain some complicated detailed story from school and wondering why I'm having trouble hearing.

And tell me why....dd aged 8 (fairly sturdy build weighing 30 kilos-ish) can walk around the house without me noticing, whereas when ds (very scrawny weighing only 19 kilos) is going from room to room the house is almost shaking?
