22 month dd won't drink anymore! Advice?

Hello,

dd is 22 months. Until recenlty was still giving milk bottle, but was advised by clinic to mix with tea in eves and gradually wean her off.

Doesnt matter if I add milk or not. She's gone off milk totally it seems. But also blankly refuses to drink anything I offer most of the day. I'm going spare. HAve even started bribing her with things, such as her comfort blanket! Feel rotten, but better that than dehydration. Especially this last week whilst she had high fever.

Any tips? Thanks!

eh? You were told to put tea in her bottle?? Why not to put the milk in a beaker??

Bizarre

She probably now anticipates that all drinks are altered hence 'going off' liquids

Persevere with drinks, try to stick to milk or water, no need to develop a juice or squash habit; have you tried spouty cups/sports bottles as well as a beaker

try making it nice and cold. she may have a sore throat and will find this more soothing.

I am really that you were advised to give her tea. It affects the absorption of iron from food as well as the caffeine content. Was it a qualified health visitor that recommended that?

Afaik (unless a child has an allergy of course) dcs of all ages can have milk.

Agree with what others have said. Try different temperatures (my 26 month old likes warm milk)perhaps let her choose a new sippy cup/beaker. She is old enough to probably drink out of a "normal" cup.

Personally I would offer juice (especially in preference to tea) but very very well diluted. I give dd2 a beaker of water with literally a splash of apple/orange juice once a day. About 1/10 juice, no more.

what strange advice to give the woman or man in the clinic needs reporting. dont give milk but give tea/caffiene. my ds stopped drinking a while ago and it is a worry. my sister taught him to drink through a straw and he loved it he was so excited about the new way of drinking he forgot he was drinking.

TEA?!! bizarre.
If she's been poorly she might get back to normal slowly. good tip about the straw, or maybe favourite character, new beaker?

i would try the different cup also, i do warm honey milk at night i think the warm soothes her and just a bit of honey or agave necter. but with a fever i would do just about anything to make her drink frozen pops or anything liquid. what about smoothies?

I second the straw idea. DS doesn't love drinking water so to get him I either give him a straw or let him drink out of a proper glass (which I hold for him obv). He's too excited at how grown up he is to be worried about what he's actually drinking.

The tea thing is very ... do you mean tea as in the drink or tea as in dinner and tea?!?
