8 week old being very sick

My 8 week old DS has been being very sick after a feed since about 4 weeks old.

I'm breast feeding and he has one aptamil bottle at night, but it makes no difference. Sometimes it will be straight after the feed and others it will be half an hour to an hour afterwards. I know that babies are sick, however, this is ALOT of sick that will just keep coming out of him. Sometimes they are really curdled and look like they must taste disgusting. He gets quite stressed afterwards and often cries. He brings up his wind fine and can burp and then be sick afterwards, but rarely both at the same time. Sometimes he won't be sick straight after the feed, he'll be fine for a while, bring up his wind fine, be quite happy and then all of a sudden you feel his little body lurch and out comes an absolute torrent.

I took him to the dr's and they gave him some infant gaviscon, which worked for 10days and then just stopped working. It also made him constipated which caused him to cry in pain. Would really like some ideas, support... anything really.

He is putting on weight fine and produces lots of wet nappies so I know that there's maybe nothing to worry about but it's just so much sick and he'll do it at night, a few times I've woken up to him gagging on it, which is frightening enough but it was 4 hours after he had fed and it just doesn't seem right. Health Visitor has been useless and just says that that's what babies do but she's not been able to offer any advice about anything I've asked her, so I stopped asking and now she's stopped coming, which is fine by me.

you need to post this in feeding.
The gaviscon worked fine for us so dont think I would be any help. Mine wasn't breast fed but if you are still doing mixed feeding would you consider cow & gate comfort and tilting him on his side when he is asleep so he wont aspirate.

hope you get more answers in breast feeding.

Thank you, I've done that now, so tired I can barely think straight! I think lying him on his side is a good idea but read somewhere that you shouldn't so didn't know what to do.

it says that but 2 of mine spent their time lying on their sides. as long as he is propped up and not going to roll on his facew he will be fine.

dd was exactly the same, even down to the gaviscon working then not! Turned out to be lactose intolerance - take a few weeks before it happens as is a build up of lactose - you can buy lactose free formula - SMA LF from big boots stores but is expensive, but if it works can get on prescription. cheaper is aptamil easy digest which is much lower in lactose so easier to digest/less sickness - can continue breastfeeding if you totally cut out all diary/lactose in your diet - will take about a week to get out of both of your systems but worked for us - they usually grow out of it,saying that DD is now 18months and still very sick with dairy! Might be worth a try!

Have been told colief helps some babies as it helps digest the lactose, but made my DD worse!!

fingers crossed you find a solution soon!!
