DS is 8 months old and although has been generally quite wingey he was going down at night really well for quite a while. I could put him down awake and he would just go straight to sleep. Has just started sleeping through the night too. For the last 4 nights though he has really kicked up at bed time and I have had to BF him to get him to settle and he has fallen straight to sleep on me so I know that he is tired. He has also started waking during the night lots and not settling back down. The only way to calm him down is to feed him and I feel like I have gone backwards, the change is just so sudden. I have tried giving him more to eat at teatime incase he is getting hungry but that didnt make any difference. Any ideas and will he grow out of it. He does get quite agitated during the day too. I wondered about teething but he has two teeth already and they came through without much fuss at all.
Please help, its driving us all mad!!!!

Hi he is maybe teething again . I wouldnt be feeding him as you will get him used to this . They also go through a stage were they work out they are alone , dont be worrying about it , just put him to bed as normal , if he wakes up , lift him give him a cuddle but dont talk to him and put him back down , it might take you to do this for awhile but he will work out that you arent goin to feed him and he will go back to normal , all the best of luck

Thanks longagegap. DS has settled down a little bit in that he is going to bed ok but is still waking at least once a night and gets so upset when he realises that I am not going to feed him that i end up giving in which settles him immediately. I have tried picking him up and cuddling him as you suggested but he continues to cry, wriggle and get very aggitated. If I put him back in his cot he screams. I tried leaving him for 10mins as this has worked in the past but he just gets even more wound up and each time I end up giving in.
I did have to go through this to get him to drop the night time feeds before but this time he is getting much more upset.
Not sure if it is ok to leave him to cry when he could be teething, he seems ot be ok during the day though.

My DD is 8 months and exactly the same. She has gone from sleeping through to waking twice for feeds and she won't settle without one. She is refusing feeds in the day though so I am wondering if it's genuine hunger with her.

Sorry no advice just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Thanks Mrswillis, so many of my friends have babies that slept through from as early as 3 months old without them having to anything that I start wondering what I am doing wrong. Last night I decided to be strong and not give in. He woke at 10pm and I just held him and sang to him which calmed him a little but he started crying again as soon as I put him down but I left him for 5mins then went back. He was so distraught that I felt guilty and gave him some calpol incase he really was teething. After about 10mins he started to settle a little which made me feel even more guilty that I hadnt given him it earlier!!!. I cuddled him for a while and then put him in his cot and left him but he started crying again and grizzled for a further 15mins before finally going to sleep. The good news is that he didnt wake up again until 6.30am so it was worth doing and I will try to stick to it again to night. Mrswillis, I remember DD daughter doing a similar thing but with her I increased the amount I gave her for dinner and it helped alot. I hope your DD settles down soon,.
