17month old & still breastfeeding...

...how to stop? She never took to a bottle so was breastfeed from the off and is still reluctant to have milk in her sippy cup but does have it with her cereals; loves yoghurt & cheesey stuff so does have quite a bit throughout the day. If i'm honest I've been reluctant up to now to stop but, as she's now fully equipped with a gobfull of nashers and is getting more and more independent, the time has finally come to put away the nursing bras and reclaim my boobs. Shall I just cold turkey it and steel myself against the heartbreaking wails or is there an alternative route?

Thanks.

Could you just cut it down slowly DS only had night feeds in the end and after a bad cold when he couldn't easily feed he decided himself he had enough.

Perhaps a gradual reduction would be better.

yeah deffo reduce gradually.

I bf DS2 the longest and first cut out daytime feeds, so ew were doign early mornign and bedtime.

Finally just bedtime, over a period of weeks rather than days certainly. When he was less than keen and I felt I was just doing it to make me feel better (he was no 3 and final) I decided to stop and he and I were fine.

He was abotu 13mo btw but the age is not expecially relevant here.

Thanks for that..we're down to a morning & bedtime feed only at present & have been for some time. I've occasionally put her to bed without a bf (& without too much of a protestation due to tiredness) and i suspect the morning one will be the hardest to break. I'm not sure how this can be achieved gradually...help! (sorry if i appear slow on the uptake)

well you just need to drop one (sounds like maybe the bedtime one for you) then in due course, maybe a week later or whatever, stop doign the other one too.

If you want to stop then you just have to really. There will be a day you feed her once followed by a day you don't feed her at all. It will be fine I am sure.

You could always give her the feed in the morning but cut it shorter each day until she doesn't seem bothered anymore.
