6 year old behaviour is just not normal

He ran into the road in temper because I wouldn't get a cab home. He tries to steal from the supermarket (I have to turn his pockets out). His tantrums are uncontrollable. Once in a newsagent he got a box of crisps and chucked all of them on the floor and stamped on them. If anyone tells him off when he's in a tantrum he tells them to fuck off. It's always in public and it's embarrasing. His 10 year old brother is scared of him. He throws things out of windows in cars, and called a cab driver a paedophile . This has been going on for years.
My reactions are sometimes calm, trying to talk to him, threatening to take toys away etc, sometimes screeching at him. Sometimes my brain just shuts down, when he mashed up the crisps I walked out of the shop without him like a robot. Help

Glad it helped.

It does sound like it's more likely to be ODD rather than ADHD.

I only came across it as my 6yr old DS is just not normal either, although it isn't in the same way as your DS. I completely understand what you are going through.

What do the teachers say about him? What does the SENCO think?

junglist1 · 25/09/2009 19:27

The teachers don't really call me in or anything. When I went in to complain about a bigger boy hitting him they then revealed he can be a bit fisty in the playground himself. But at that school all the boys come home covered in cuts and bruises from punching and kicking at break, so he might not stand out in that respect. Last year his teacher told me he was delightful but he was telling me things she'd really be saying from day to day, just quite snide things. It was her house keys he brought home. Have made an appointment with a parental advisor at the school and will also be ringing GP
