I suppose I should be pleased that he loves vegetables (well, if they're peas, sweetcorn, carrots or potatoes) but I do worry he's missing out on something important in his diet. I do give him cheese, and he has lots of milk in his diet, plus yoghurts, but there are still things that I think only meat can give him. He's pretty fussy (like dur! He's a toddler ) so I don't reckon I'd have much luck with lentils or barley, or anything like that.

I'm trying to make sure his fairly limited diet is at least nutritious... he likes risotto, pasta (with nice home made veggie sauce), home made pizza and baked beans, but that's about it. Please tell me he's not going to end up with some dreadful defficiency. I know I should be grateful, he eats tons of fruit, loves dried fruit, spent ages eating handfuls of blackberries he picked today on our walk, but I'm just worried he's missing out on something.

DD is like this - the only meat she will eat is sausages (they have to be really good quality though otherwise she turns her nose up!). She doesn't like eggs either and struggles with fish and is not even that keen on cheese (although I disguise it).

However, my Dad coooked a mild chilli the other day and he makes it so the mince is really, really fine - more like the texture of veggie mince - and she really liked it. Could you try whizzing it a little bit in the blender so its more like a tomato sauce if you are worried.

I really don't worry about it, I barely eat meat myself so its not a problem for me. Like your DS, DD eats stacks of fruits, veg, porridge, baked beans, pasta with homemade sauce, rice, the occasional fish finger, fresh juice and smoothies, youghurts and drinks a fair bit of milk so her diet is pretty healthy.

She does love lentils though so that might be worth a try or try hiding them in something. Oh and how about nuts - have you tried him with them. DD loves walnuts and brazils and often has then at her snack time and so that boosts her protein intake.
