Misdee, ds2 is 2 yrs 6 months. He can walk fine without falling over but he is quite clumsy so I know if he starts to run he'll fall over! If the slightest thing is in his way, crack in pavement for example - he'll fall over it. He can jump fine but probably not hop I don't think.

I worry about him a bit because ds1 is super agile and athletic and ds2 is the opposite. If we go to a park he won't walk any distance and wants to be carried - it drives me nuts.

Haven't read all the replies, Misdee, but ds2 is 2.7 and can't walk 100m without falling over. His feet turn inwards quite noticably too, so I took him to GP. Was advised to keep his socks and shoes off as much as possible, especially through the summer, and to come back if he's still stumbling and pigeon toed by the time he's 3.
Apparently the paeds aren't keen to see them about these kind of walking problems until they're 3 as 2-3 yr olds are usually quite stumbly when walking.
HTH.

Hi Misdee, DS is 2 and 3m and he trips with his feet very often, he can't hop, can barely manage jumping (vey small heights), and has a rather peculiar way of running. Sometimes I worry because I see children far younger that have more confident movement. We have just realised that the single thing that DS got from me is fallen arches. So his feet are not the best for balance, obviously being so familiar with the situation I know DS should be using, by now, special shoes that help correct the arch but I don't have a clue of where to find them here. Does that help? .... I'm not sure, does it? anyways...

hi misdee - my ds is 2.7mo and is reliable on his feet, unless he is excited by something, something is in his way, he isn't concentrating. He walked about half a mile home with me yesterday incident free. I would get dd checked, but dd's physio says that they don't take walking/posture problems seriously until after age 3.

DS is 28mo and can walk without falling over for great distances - prefers not to hold my hand. Some of my friends say that the falling over phase is brought on by a growth spurt - I guess the theory is they are getting used to their new/changing shape. That would explain why my DS doesn't fall over - he is a tiny thing, still in the same clothes he had 18mths ago.

my son is slightly pigeon toed and i have to be careful what shoes he is wearing.one particular pair he sometimes wears he will fall over more often in. if you stand in front of them and get them to walk towards you then you can generally notice this. but any pead should pick this up,so i'm sure it would have already been diagnosed if it was that bad. oh by the way my son is 2.5 he will be tree in nov.

Hi Misdee, My DS2 (now 3.8) was worrying me a bit at the beginning of the school year (just turned 3) as he seemed to stumble and trip a lot when I was holding his hand on the walk up to DS1's school. And I did notice that he was often very busy looking all around him and behind him and at his shadow etc, so perhaps that was part of why he didn't pay attention to the pavement.
I didn't do anything about it and as it happens realised just last week that he hardly trips at all now. Of course he does sometimes when he's tired. I hope this is reassuring - my DS just seems to have got better as he's got older.

ds is almost 2..i have even asked the ped about this..1 chiro said legs uneven 1 said no...even the speech teach noticed the falling...but, soooo far no one has said their was a reason for concern....i have notice though that he doesn't pick his feet up all the way sometimes...he wairs down one shoe quicker than the other but the chiro said sometimes that can happen in children...? i can't let him play on playground equipment or even slide down slides alone out of fear he may fall...i don't meen all alone..i meen someone has to go up with him...make him sit down and all that....he HAS GOTTEN BETTER though....but, acording to all the pros...just give it time...
