Is anyone else having 'ishoos' with kids due to start school in September?

Is anyone else having 'ishoos' with kids due to start school in September?

DD will be a few days from her 5th birthday when she starts, and has a great time at nursery but since Easter (which was around the time we found out all the details about school) she has been very trying (defiant, telling fibs, lashing out at me and DH, sleep a bit dubious and now bedwetting when she has been completely dry for 2 years).

I can only assume it's anxiety about starting school. There are only 3 other kids from her nursery going to the same school, none of which she is especially friendly with.

The school runs a v. good induction course which we will be attending for the next 3 Friday afternoons so she will have the opportunity to meet other kids but am worried ( and frankly a bit fed up of dealing with the wobblies, although last week has been a bit better behaviour waise, if worse in the bedwetting dept).

Would be interested to hear if anyone else is having similar probs or has any advice, although will have to check back in later as a pile of ironing is calling me!

Cargirl,

My dcs' social life is busier now than it ever was when they were at school 4 years ago I had no idea that there were so many people doing it until I took them both out and joined lots of HomeEd groups. I just feel bad when I read posts from parents who say how unhappy their dc are at school but don't realise that they can take them out quite legally.

That is really so far mine have all loved school and dd4 loves pre-school so hopefully she will school too. She will also get the most amazing reception teacher (as did the middle two) which makes a huge difference IMO.

OP - my DD is mid August birthday and I am flipping terrified about her starting in September but have stuck my head firmly in the sand about it and only intend to start panicking in August

Helps that she's at the pre-school attached to the primary school she'll be attending.

Hope all goes well for your DD - no advice, just solidarity!

I agree cargirl, I think that DD will love school, once she gets there! For her, that seems a long way off at the moment.
She has always loved pre-school, but probably needs to move on (and I never thought I would say that, I never knew what parents meant when they said their child needed to start school, having had a very young DS who was only just ready to start come Sept)

BTP - 2 year old type tantrums is exactly the way I'd describe my DD's outbursts! And she never had them when she was 2 so it's real struggle to know what to do with her.

She has been a bit better over the last week though, and was a complete charmer yesterday so here's hoping we're coming out of the tunnel!

I think she'll love school, although I've never been one for strict routines so not sure how she'll find that, although she has the rota for nursery ingrained in her head so perhaps she will not take after me in that respect.

Just hope she has fewer visits to the head teacher than I did over the years !

My DS will be 4.2 when he starts school in September and I am dreading it. There is noone going from hsi preschool and he insists that his old teachers and old friends will be there OR that Mummy will come with him and stay (depending on his mood). He LOVES his preschoo, and has made som good friends. He is also on the young side for his age as well as being young for his year and still has trouble with buttons etc. To cap it all, I am having another baby (he already has a sister 17 months) 10 days after he starts....)

ARGHHHHHH
