Can anyone tell me anything about it? Someone has recommended it for my 6-week-old ds as he's very windy, also he won't sleep in his cot. Does anyone know how I can find a CO in my area (south London)?

it's fab!
i took my ds to the osteopath and it worked wonders. Have also seen one myself and it stopped my migraines completely!!!

if you;re willing to travel I know a brilliant one in east grinstead!

I think stuart korth is in london though, he is excellent (he treated me) and he specialises in babies and children.

i think he has a waiting list though

Could you be able to get to the Osteopathic Centre for Children near Farringdon? It would be well worth having a look at their website here

Bearess · 09/05/2005 18:07

"could you be able to get..." doh doh doh.

Bearess · 09/05/2005 18:08

BTW the OCC prefer to refer to it as paediatric and not cranial osteopathy.

I can thoroughly recommend it. We took ds2 for colic at around the same age...

The first session was a bit odd - for one I couldn't see that he was doing anything, and for another ds2 screamed and screamed throughout and I had to sit on my hands and tell myself that it was all for the good! Horrible! The CO told me that the bones of his skull were all squished so it would have been painful for him to lie flat, and the ribs near the bottom were quite tight.

Second session he almost dosed off during the session and was much more comfy. His symptoms were worse for 24hrs, then great improvement (but only lasted 2 days) - apparently very common. Third session the "good" period lasted much longer. We needed four sessions in total.

I wouldn't say that the cranial osteopathy was so much a cure, as a way to enable other methods to help. After the second session, I was able to soothe ds2 in other ways (like with white noise, rocking, cuddles etc) which just weren't effective at all before. HUGE improvement and made a huge difference to ds2's early life, and I personally believe it was worth every penny.

I don't know any particular CO's in your area, so I hope you get other recommendations. Otherwise, it's worth asking around (your HV, GP, at mum and baby groups...) asking particularly for a registered CO with extensive experience with babies. Do bear in mind that it's not a quick fix and it may take up to 4 sessions to see results, so do budget that in.

Hope that helps

Know one in North London (NW11)

There's a very good practice I used for both kids in Fulham, SW6. I can't remember the details but will look them up for you if Fulham sounds OK to you.

Definitely worth doing.

mrspink27 · 09/05/2005 22:52

oooh starlover.... who in east grinstead... been looking for a good one!!!

tiddlypom · 09/05/2005 23:01

The Fulham Osteopathic Practice.

The principal, Melinda Cotton, is just lovely.

starlover · 10/05/2005 08:37

mrspink27, her name is Karen Pelling (she is my best friends aunt!), she works in a practice called Nunneys.
It's on the main road between E.G and Crawley, just before the roundabout where the dukes head pub is

Can anyone help or advise or am I being a silly first time mum?
Haven't had a dirty nappy for 36 hours plus, is that normal when he is feeding like a monster?!!

Also how much would a 10 1/2 lb take at each feed? Sometimes he takes both breasts, sometimes one or even only 15 mins. SOmetimes he want more than 8 oz of expressed milk..is that too much?

Alannah · 10/05/2005 10:59

Carshalton Oeteopathic Clinic has an Osteopath that does cranial work for baby's. Gets really great results apparently.

Checky - don't worry about the absence of poo for 36 hours, happend to my dd and midwife said it was normal
