Anyone else got a 10yo? Am beginning to despair

Rude, emotional (cries at everything!), sullen, lethargic, insulting, unfocussed, highly strung, annoying, immature (for a 10 yo obviously!), huffy......

Am so tired of all this. Want my nice little boy back!!! Anyone else going through this, or have already been through it? How do I cope with this behaviour day in, day out? Every day is a constant challenge between us, and I'm finding that all I do is ask him to stop doing something or other. I'm all for 'choose your battles' but what about when the day is full of unacceptable behaviour???

I have a lovely 10 year old . But I have absolutely no idea what I did to deserve it.

I took my DS1 (nearly 12) to his friend's party today. 4 of us mums got onto talking - 3 of us apparently (according to each boy) are the worst mothers in the world. 1 of them is not only the worst mother in the world but the strictest as well. 2 of us had been this close to not letting our sons go to the party for the cheek and the attitude that there had been.

Add a nearly 10 year old DD and a 2 year old to the mix, with all the drama, histrionics, tantrums and tears that brings and life in our house is never dull (and that's me being positive and upbeat).

I think it's the start of hormones kicking in - or something - but whatever it is it's hellish, and you have my sympathy and empathy.

I agree with psychomum - I had a similar phase off my DD1 at the same age which I think also has something to do with the SATS angst and changes to senior school. DD1 has settled into a managable teenager and now it is DD2's turn to do all the things so nicely described in the other posts. Good only that all the rules from DD1 are in place and being watched over very jealously by her! I have escaped to babysit for a friend as I write this but am generally in good spirits that it, too, will pass.

I think all this behaviour is just down to the age. My dd1 is 11 and we have had this for nearly 2 years, it is changing to more of a sarcastic attitude than plain rudeness now but even so i could swing for her sometimes.
