speech delay and hearing test in 2.4yr old

My son has got speech delay, he says about 3 words clearly and that's it.

He was assessed by speech therapist who said they have no worries at all about him, that he's still very young and that he's totally fine when it comes to paying attention, following instructions, trying to communicate, social interaction. They were really nice and very reasurring.

However, that was several months ago, still no progress and I'm worrying again. I don't understand why noone has tested his hearing.

I don't think he's deaf by any means, he understands and follows instructions and turns at sounds etc but isn't there a hearing problem which means you can't hear certain tones/sounds which then affects speech?

Who do I speak to about wanting a hearing test for him? GP/HV/Speech Therapist (she gave me her number but said she didn't need to see him again for 6mths).

or am i just being overly concerned about nothing?

Speak to your HV I had to be quite insistent that I wanted dds hearing tested. ring your speech therapist and tell her that to date there has been no progress with his speech and you would like her to see him again when the 6 months is up.

If the speech therapist saw him before he was 2 then that could be why there was little follow because there is not much they can do if it is just a case of speech delay. My dd had to wait until 3.5 to start therapy for her speech delay.

I'm no expert btw just a mum, 2 dds with clear early speech and 2 dds with speech delay for different reasons (no language or understanding difficulties)

Hi tinatuner not sure if you have seen my thread about my DDs hearing test today? I referred myself this time but was referred by the GP the first time. I think if you are worried get an appointment with your GP to discuss it all. My DDs SALT has said similar about DD but is seeing her more regularly I think it is down to area and resources but hopefully your GP could puh for you to be seen again sooer. Or ring the SALT maybe too. My DD has just been diagnosed with glue ear, they said she can hear but sounds would be muffled.
