How late can babies cut their first tooth?

Probably ages away but my 8mo DS seems to have been teething since he was about 4 months and has no teeth yet. He really seems to be suffering compared to other babies his age. He's constantly headbutting my shoulder with his mouth and has taken to banging his forehead when he feeds. Feel so sorry for him, DH thinks we should take him to the doctor, would like to reassure him that this is all entirely normal.

the headbutting and hitting face when feeding is normal. both mine did this regardless of whether they were teething or not.

that said, they also both took forever to break their first teeth, almost a year old before the first ones appeared for both my boys.

they can seemingly teeth for months before anything comes through

one of mine was 18 months before she cut her first tooth.

mine were 11 months and 12 months when they got their first - must be late teethers in our family, I was the same

18 months!! Ok, so a long while to go before I need to get him fitted for dentures.

thisisyesterday, thanks for the reassurance on headbutting and face hitting. He is also hair pulling (his own as well as mine!) which shocked me when I saw clumps of hair in his hand, but will assume this is all part of the same school of 'self-awareness' development.

i used to have to hold onto ds2's hands while he was feeding or he'd scratch himself to death.
it's bizarre the things they do
