how would you deal with spitting in a two year old?

Dd2 is two on thursday and has recently taken to filling her mouth with juice and then 'spraying' it all the place.

I have just had a new carpet fitted. It's light grey [sigh].

How can I stop her doing this?

I have been telling her its naughty and taking the drink away but she only does it again when she gets the drink back.

ignore?

I would ignore too. My 2 year old went through a phase of finding this hilarious and it didn't help that older dcs laughed. I got them to ignore him and not laugh and I ignored too. With no attention he got bored of doing it pretty quickly. If he persisted I would have taken the drink away each time he did it.

Hmm, I could try ignoring it. And hope for the best for my carpet

She is doing it for attention because she walks right upto you grinning before she does it, with her mouth filled with juice/water/milk.

If you think she is doing it for attention then I would definately ignore as a first tactic. Nice carpets and kids don't go together unfortunatley!!

I wouldn't spit in a 2 year old - sorry, couldn't resist that one

Tell her it's wrong, and that until she stops spitting, she will only have water to drink as it won't make so much of a mess on the carpet. That would have worked with mine at that age.

My son used to do this. he was an utter delight.

I was told to pull a disgusted face (not exagerated) turn away and say calmly 'thats not nice' or similar.

It did work, amazingly. He wasnt getting the big ol reaction he was after and stopped.

Sorry to state the obvious but just give her water instead of juice? Better for her anyway....
