Help! First time mum -sleep problems with my 20m ds

My ds has always been a good sleeper, even during teething... i was lucky enough for him to settle into a big boy bed with ease however recently his 7pm - 7am routine does not exist & its more like 9:30 - 6:30!

he was having two hours sleep after his lunch, however i have dropped this to an hr to try to help him go to bed earlier as i thought he may have been having too much sleep.

I do have a bedtime routine where he has a bath after dinner, gets into pyjamas, watches in the night garden & goes to bed with his milk & we read a book.. there isnt a lot of crying but he is just not sleeping? any ideas? am brand new to this, joined today in desperation

Hi Leehp, im having the same trouble with my 22 month DD. She has a routine that is the same as yours. I think it has a lot to do with being light later into the night and earlier in the morning. Im thinking its time for a trip to ikea for a black out blind!!

I have ds similar age and he also messes about and chats and fiddles about and tosses and turns for ages and we have a blackout blind!
Think it's an age thing more than a ything else - seem to remember my others being the same at this age.
Leehp - I actually think dropping sleep won't help, bizarrely, better daytime naps often result in better nighttime sleep, even if it meansw not going to bed quite as early....
not always the case, but very often if a nap is cut shorter than they would naturally sleep, dcs then don't settle at night as well IME!

Thank you mumbear! That may well be it...black out blind, worth a try hey?!

I agree with Frank Mustard about not dropping the daytime nap. Yesterday she didnt have one as I was at work and DP picked her up early from MIL. She was AWFUL last night because she was so tired, she worked herself up into such a state. I think the blinds are really cheap anyway so its worth a try. I accept less sleep in the summer because come autumn/winter she will sleep 7.30-9am if I let her. I

Thanks FrankMustard!!! I remember hearing that before about the daytime naps but had forgotten!!! It would be better to let him have his sleep in the day as he is happier if he has a good 2 hours and i also don't have to wake him!! I guess i may just revert back to what i was doing and persevere with the sneaking around and fiddling in the bedroom!!!

I feel better and reassured already!!! Thanks!

I love the 2 hr naps in the day - a chance for a bit of sanity to be restored!
