Hi, I am thinking about going to a Cranial Oestopath for my little girl as she sufferd from very bad wind and has just been diagnosed with silent reflux.

Has anyone used this treatment on their little one and how do you think it went ?

I went with my baby when she was about 7 or 8 weeks olds.
Not for the same reason, it was because she had a stiff neck as a result of labour.
It worked straight away, amazing.
I would recommend it. My baby was much happier afterwards.

Went for the same reason as stickybean. DD couldn't move her head to the right at all after a long and complicated labour.

Two sessions and she was right as the proverbial rain.

FabulousBakerGirl · 14/05/2009 13:49

I did but for different reasons.

Was amazing and really helped him.

I took my 3 year old last summer after years of non-specific colds/illness & a bout of osteomylitis involving hospitalisation & 4 operations at 11 months. She just never seemed 'right/always tired'. She was born via ventouse.

It was mind-blowing. He touched/brushed her back, neck & shoulders & said 'was she born by forceps?' All of her tension was held in her chest & shoulders & one side of her head. Three sessions of treatment later & she bounced out of the room. She has not been sick all winter, the odd sniffle of course but nothing to keep her off school at all. Calmer & happier child!

Utter convert here. Good luck with your little one.

Not for a little one, but for my 6 yo ds2 dx ADHD. Cannot begin to tell you the difference it made to him. The chiropractor who performed it reminded me that I was beginning to 'medicate' my child - it wasn't just a massage. He has 'top up' every few months.

My DD was born in January via an emergency C section as she got stuck!! Her head was really misshapen and her nose was flat. I struggled on for 7 weeks with a constantly screaming baby who also had reflux and terrible wind. Luckily a friend suggested cranial osteopathy.

She is now a lot more settled and has large periods when she doesnt cry at all. I am still going every 2 weeks and she really seems to enjoy it. It wasnt a miracle cure for me but it has definitely helped DD who is now 16 weeks old and napping in her cot (which would have been impossible prior to the treatment!!).

Best of luck with it.

dreamylady · 15/05/2009 09:39

this will be of minimal help cos i can't remember the details but my friend - (who's aunty is a midwife and delivered her babies for her so she will no doubt have been recommended to it by her or at least told it would be ok to try) tried this for her dd and said it seemed to be effective- not sure exactly what for but it was sleeping / possibly colic issues.

Allegrogirl · 15/05/2009 19:17

I took my 3 month dd colic and wind and it was amazing. I held off because of the cost, it was £22 per session. I wish I'd done it when she was much younger. After 3 sessions she was far more chilled and content. We did 4 sessions in all. If I get another screamer I'm heading straight there.

littleoldme · 16/05/2009 08:56

My friend's dc screamed for her first three weeks. And I mean screamed for hours. one visit to the osteopath and it stopped.

titferbrains · 16/05/2009 21:45

Yes my dd was only turning her head in one direction, a few private sessions sorted this and also helped me look at her in a much more holistic way - not turning head was linked to issues in pelvis, which were causing wind, and wind was making her uncomfortable during feeds etc. Really helpful although expensive.

lou222 · 18/05/2009 18:03

I couldn't put my ds down for more than 5 mins without him crying, he was waking up every 2 hours and was just a cry baby!
After the first session he slept 10 hours solid! and after 3 sessions turned from a cry baby to a happy baby.

justlookatthatbooty · 19/05/2009 21:01

My DS, now 16 months had CranioSacral Osteo when he was tiny and it seemed to help a bit with his sleeping (or rather, non sleeping) patterns etc but we've tried again recently and he simply won't lie down and it seems this is required by the therapist in order for the treatment to take place.Does anyone else have this problem or does your therapist do treatments with your DC sitting/standing instead of lying? I really like the therapist but I don't want to waste time and money as it just turns into a play session.
Anyone?

Rockdoctor · 20/05/2009 12:58

OK, can I add an alternative view? I took my non-sleeping, constantly crying DD to a cranial osteopath when she was a few months old. The osteopath was "recommended" by a health visitor. After a few sessions I stopped going. The osteopath showed me where DD's head was misaligned and talked about colic etc. but when she started working on DD it was clear to me that DD was not happy and possibly in pain. My instinct said stop going so that's what I did.

I know a lot of people are converts but I could never see how they could do what they claimed to be doing without either hurting the child or potentially causing other problems. My GP said there was no harm in it but as I said, it didn't feel right to me and I stopped going.

mistlethrush · 20/05/2009 13:22

I've taken ds for two sets of treatment - the first when he was little and really suffering from colic (bad nights he would start at 7pm and continue to 4 or 5am with perhaps the odd 10mins off once every 2 hours or so) - three sessions and it just stopped - no tailing off.

This lot of treatment it was quite noticeable that the first session he did cry a little - but it was his 'colic' cry rather than a 'normal' cry and this just reinforced to me that the osteopath was doing something that was related to the colic issue.

Second lot when he was having a lot of congestion problems at about 18mo - 2yrs - one treatment of this he fell asleep in the car on the way, I managed to carry him to the treatment room still asleep and all the treatment was carried out with him asleep on my shoulder - so it definitely didn't hurt him.

Justlook - yes, when older ds had treatment sitting/standing up - or asleep on my shoulder, never lying down (you cannot expect a young child like this to cooperate with something like that)

Hi Just Posted this on the Cranial Osteopathy - An unbelievable experience for us !!!!!!!!!!!!! thread

Just to say we went to our first session yesterday with my 6.5 week old DD. On arriving as soon as the osteopath took DD without asking any questions she had told me I'd had a difficult labour, followed by emergency CS under general anasthetic (all true) that DD was very cold for a long time after being born and I'd had problems with blood loss levels - also all true. Couldnt believe it, but when she told me I'd lost my mum so DD was feeling the stress from that I nearly passed out. DD suffers from severe reflux which was the reason we went. Still very sicky today but doesnt seem in as much pain...will see how we do after the next couple of sessions. Is all this normal for Cranial osteopathy?!

lou222 · 21/05/2009 18:32

wow that sounds more like a pyschic!!
mine asked me all about the birth and how long he was in hospital etc
and then explained he had absorbed alot of shock, but i wasn't sure if she would have said that had i not told her what happened. So yours does sound good aoifesmama

BlueBumedFly · 21/05/2009 22:10

Did it for DD - loved it. A real must for emergency section babies.

dinkystinky · 23/05/2009 10:03

Went to cranial osteopath for DS1 (and for me - big pelvis problems post birth - worked a treat) and am a total convert. DS1 had difficult birth - was lodged in birth canal for a long time due to midwife's incompetence so was in a lot of pain from a malformed skull for a while post birth and aspirated meconium - he was screaming lots and in lots of pain and distress for his first few weeks of life; he was like a different baby after a couple of treatments!

DS2 has also been to cranial osteopath (is still going) as he has suffered badly from trapped wind/reflux like symptoms from a couple of weeks post birth - the osteopath's correctly diagnosed that he had the cord around his neck at birth. He's been tonnes better since having treatment - miles better after a couple of sessions and now barely ever throws up or has trapped wind issues.

DEBDEB72 · 23/05/2009 21:48

Hi, please see my posting a few days ago - Cranial Ostepathy to sum up its like we have a new baaby and the cranial treatment has made the world of difference - I thoroughly recommned it

wolfnipplechips · 25/05/2009 23:38

I took my ds he had never been able to sit in his car seat without screaming the place down. From the very first time for 5 months it was awful we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, then we had a car accident caused by the unbelievable stress.

My dh was so sceptical but after the first visit ds fell asleep in the car he only had one more session and was right as rain. The osteopath was very clear that some of the things i brought him with, hyperactivity etc was more likely to be his personality and he was right but it was truly amazing.

I now want to bring my dd who is 4 before she starts school.
