I have a 6 year old son, he has always been very routine led and hates changes of any sort, for example you could never surprise him with a day out, he will be sitting on the sofa then all of a sudden squeal out loud i thought he was just after some attention but now am not so sure, also when he is trying to tell you something if it doesn't come out perfectly he has to keep repeating the sentance over and over til its right! i am noticing it more and more now as he is getting older and i am getting quite concerned it is also very frustrating as i am on my own and he goes to his dads at weekends i feel like i am shouting at him all the time for the squealing episodes and general playing up if he gets out of routine bedtimes are a nightmare, is it normal for a 6 year old to behave this way?

I would ask the same ... is his teacher showing any concern over his learning or behaviour? I would probably back off at home and introduce some firm behaviour strategies. You may find he needs a more rigid routine oif he's not coping with change. I appreciate it must be hard to be consistent when you are on your own - do you have other children?

If you post on the Special Needs board (not that he is), there are a few professionals that contribute there about speech, language and behaviour - they may be able to offer more advise.
