my 3 week old won't let me put her down. She just wants to be latched on or asleep. Preferably both at the same time.

I'm exhausted. Is this normal? She hates the car, she hates the car seat. She hates the moses basket (but I put her in it when she's fast asleepand she's ok) hates the bouncy chair, everything.

She only shuts up crying when i latch her on.

Tell me this is normal

Motorised swing is well worth it. Also vote for dummies and swaddling. Basically throw any tools available at the "problem" and hope one works. Constantly remind yourself it WILL get easier, she will also be 15 mths before you know it.

Another vote for a Moby sling.

I had exactly this problem when DS was born (DD 23months at the time) He literally lived in that sling for 4 months, he was happy, DD was happy that it meant I could do things with her and I was happy to have two kids who weren't crying

It's hard at the time, but it soon passes, honest

god, am I the only person who finds the sling exhausting? There's a lot I can't do in it - can't even reach the damn kitchen sink around big fat dd or anything below my waist level, can't pick up/wrangle/snuggle ds, etc. etc. And am utterly knackered when I take it off. Not that this is any different from holding her, mind

hi
just to add, I thought my DS was the only baby ever who HATED his car seat. He screamed every time we had a car journey, which was VERY stressful. At about four weeks, everything changed and he now seems to love the snugness (its a Maxicosi)and sleeps immediately! The main message I took from this was that every week, if not every day, is different, so hang in there!

Thank you!!!

Just a silly question about sling using... Do the babies still sleep when you put them down in their baskets/beds? Or do you have to then put then in a motorised hammock or similar swing simulator

Swaddling saved my life with Ds2 - the sling was fab when he was awake but he didn't sleep well in it. Only swaddling, really tightly, helped.

6 months on, he's still swaddled......

we never had a motorised swing/hammock for DS.

The bizarre thing was he HAD to be in the sling or carried ALL the time I was awake for the first few months, if you put him down (even when asleep) he just wailed, but he went to bed in the crib next to our bed when I went to bed & he just slept (other than waking for feeds), I guess he'd had enough body contact during the day to keep him going.

It's not easy wearing a sling, but I personally found it easier than the last few weeks of pregnancy as my back/pelvis were no where near as sore & the "bump" DS made in the sling was more compact than my real bump had been. (I'd definitely go for a wrap-around type sling, I tried the Baby Bjorn type sling and it KILLED my pelvis (I had SPD) & back, not comfy at all.)
