23 months getting out of cot - is it time for big bed?

Hi,
In the last few days my DS who is 23months has been getting out of his grobag and getting out of his cot. So I'm thinking it's time to put him in a proper bed in order to prevent any fall injuries.
I was wondering if there were any pointers as to how to go about this successfully! I was thinking of investing in a bed rail and thought it was probably wise to keep him in his grobag for a while before introducing proper bedding. Once I've put him down is he likely to keep getting out of bed and wondering round until he finally drops off?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

We out ours in a big bed and took off his grobag in case he tried to get out and walk.

He did but it only really took about a week to get him used to it.

He chose his new bedding and got very excited arranging his toys on bed.

We did put a stairgate on his bedroom door as he went through phases of creeeping into our bed in early hours.

Didn't bother with bed rail. Just put pillows and cushions on his floor in case of falling out (which he has done a few times)

thanks for the response! Did you have any trouble at bedtime in terms of keeping him in bed instead of running around the bedroom?!

i would think it is definitely the time to put him in a bed. am sure a bit of wandering will take place (about to put my 2-next-week in a bed too and the same will happen there i'm sure) but the novelty will wear off i reckon! most important thing is their safety after all....

Um yes. he's almost 3 now though and he's worse as he wants to play. Always a tricky ish sleeper when he was littler too!

We jsut stick to same thing every night.
He knows that lights go off after stories and we always let him have a run around and mad 15 mins before bath or getting dressed for bed (he enjoys running around naked like we all do?!)

Sometimes we have to go up and say 'get back nto bed please' 'stop talking to yourself please and go to sleep' etc! Very funny to listen to outside his door...

I just have slightly deluded visions of him having midnight feasts up there or scaling down the drain pipe at night to get up to mischief! Just weird not having a baby anymore!
