My 11mo DD sounded like she said "Hi" 3 times to my friends that were visiting a few days ago......and then when they were leavin she was in my arms at the front door and we were waving them off and I swear she said "bye bye" when she was waving!

Is this too soon? am I just imagining this?

Wow! wasnt expecting that many posts at all!! Thanks ladies, she hasn't said anything since that day (last wednesday!) but she has tried quacking alot as she's really into ducks at the moment.
What is it about ducks and babies?!?!

DS said "nana" for banana at 9 1/2 months. Now at 11 months he says "at" for cat, "ock" for clock (no idea why but he's completely obsessed with them) and "uck" for truck.

BEAUTlFUL · 13/05/2009 13:24

"Bugger", 13 months,

JRocks · 13/05/2009 13:27

DS first words were 'oh dear', exactly the same as mine Can't remember when it was though, I'm sure it's written down somewhere

PeppermintPatty · 13/05/2009 13:36

"hiya" at about 8-9 months. Then a few more words at about 12 months.

luvaduck · 13/05/2009 13:40

no at 10 months. a word or two a month until about 15 months when he had a vocabulary explosion.

luvaduck · 13/05/2009 13:40

"no" at 10 months. a word or two a month until about 15 months when he had a vocabulary explosion.

luvaduck · 13/05/2009 13:41

ooops sorry.

ICANDOTHAT · 13/05/2009 15:39

Considering my ds2 went on to have speech and language delay, he said his brother's name at 8 months old ... very loud, over and over and over again Mind you it is just one syllable, so quite easy to master

TattyCatty · 13/05/2009 15:47

DD's first word was "bear" (whilst pointing at a teddy) at around 7 months old, quickly followed by "Bye Bye" and "Ta". She could also imitate about half a dozen animal sounds on request by the time she was a year old. Classic early talker, late walker - didn't crawl until 14 months or walk independently until 20 months!

spiderlight · 13/05/2009 16:29

My son was making a particular sound ('nim' to ask for a breastfeed at about 6 months, but in terms of proper words, he said 'star', jump' and 'stairs' within a few days of each other at ten months. His speech really took off at about 14 months and he had over a hundred words by his 18-month check, which made our health visitor go a bit! he now doesn't shut up. Ever. Even in his sleep!

TettyLouBar · 13/05/2009 19:22

Beautiful: ROFL!

She's now trying to say "duck" but its coming out as "duh" but iots always whilst pointing at a duck toy/picture/real thing, so I'm very excited!

We have picca (picture) clear as a whistle (ad infinitum) from DD at 9 months. It was like a flood gate opening. She said it directly after DH pointed at a picture and told her what it was called.

9 months came and went with DS....20 months now and we're still not much beyond cup cake and mama, dada, dogdog!

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/05/2009 19:46

ds1 said "det that cat" at around 10-11m and then at 12-13m had a vocab explosion

ds2 said mama and now has various words but not putting many together except My root ----my foot which has been said about a trillion times a day for the last week since he ripped his toenail off. He is 19m.

Eve4Walle · 13/05/2009 19:50

DD said 'big cat' at 7 months, which nobody ever belives but 'tis true.

DS' first word was 'Hiya' which is his favourite word now and he says to everyone.

aprilfoolsbaby · 13/05/2009 19:57

My DD is 13 months and says the following: Teddy, Daddy, Bye, Mama, dwink, dog and 'oosh' for shoes. She didn't crawl until 4 days before her first birthday and can't walk but she never shuts up. They're all different x

DS is nearly 15 months and has one word - 'boo'
He loves peeping his head round the door frame and shouting it at me

Castiel · 13/05/2009 20:22

'daddy' at about 7/8 months and a couple of days later 'look' 'hello' and 'dog'. Mummy a few weeks later. My place in the pecking order firmly established.

reducedfatkettlechip · 13/05/2009 21:27

ds2 had mummy and daddy at about 10 months, other words like biscuit, balloon, apple, ball by 12 months, and at 20 months has about 150 words and is linking 3 together.

ds1 on the other hand, has a language disorder/delay and didn't say mummy clearly until he was almost 3.

They are all very different but it's lovely when they do start talking (although sometimes I long for earplugs around ds2..)

troutpout · 14/05/2009 14:30

dd (6) said 'cat' and 'bird' at 8 months..words together at about 13 months ie '(her brother's name) and then 'school'... then proper sentences at about 18 months.
ds(12) said 'star' and 'cat' at 6 months.. and he could speak in full sentences by 12 months...like he'd learnt it from a manual. He didn't do baby talk at all..he spoke like you or i. I thought it was quite normal at the time and that he was just quite clever. .He now has a diagosed autistic spectrum disorder.

madameovary · 14/05/2009 18:32

DD said Mama at 4 months
Now 13 months just started saying "up" and "ta".

saintmaybe · 14/05/2009 18:41

pfb: 'Look!' @10 months and 2weeks

nsc's: not a clue. They definitely talk now

wotulookinat · 14/05/2009 18:46

DS said 'cat' at 11 months. That was all he said for the next few months before 'mummy' 'daddy' etc

Jux · 14/05/2009 18:57

Dad at about 10m. Ages before she said mum though
