DD, 5 months, has just started to have water in a tippy cup.

Does it need to be sterilised?

I dont think so unless it is your PFB

if he is healthy and the cups go through the dishwasher I would say, now on dc2, that that is enough. With ds1 though I sterilised everything up to a year! Really though it is pointless - he will be moving around, crawling soon and putting all sorts of stuff in his mouth!

Official advice: yes.

IMO, no, but I never sterilised ANYTHING. Baby's fists not sterile, boobs not sterile, any toy/teether/cot sides DSs have chewed not sterile - so I did not bother. DSs 1-3 still alive .

Lol, not diswasher but washed thouroghly.

And does it have to be cooled boiled water, not bottled?

You wouldn't think shes my 3rd?!!

My ds2 has had well washed cups with tap water since 6 months old and seems to be doing fine on it.

I wouldn't bother - as long as you wash / dry it before you use it, then it will be fine.

We only ever sterilised the breast pump/bottles - since he chews his hands, toys on the floor and 5 year old brother's grubby fingers, we figured there wasn't much point with anything else!

I think you are supposed to sterilise everything until 6mo but seems a bit pointless when they are sticking everything in their mouths.

I don't bother anymore (dd almost 7mo) except for milk bottles because stale milk is a breeding ground for germs.

I think I went from cooled boiled water to filtered tap water at about 6 months when started weaning. Life too short, I now realise.

For dc3, I think she will cope
