My beautiful grandson, 10 months, has started to become so clingy to his mum or me, when I'm there, he literally screams if she's out of his sight for a few seconds, refuses to play alone, which he used to do quite happily, he has bottom 2 teeth and I think top 2 are coming through, please tell me it's only a sign of teething as it's so draining and upsetting, I can't remember if my daughter became like this around the same age, too many years ago now!

He will be much more clingy if he is in discomfort.
It might also be a stage.
It will pass though, I promise!

Playing peekaboo is supposed to help with developing understanding of things/people still being present even if they cannot be seen.

I don't know if there is any concrete evidence of this working, but hey, it's fun.

I recall reading that there was a phase called 'separation anxiety' at this age.

At the time DS was this age I thought that the idea of this maybe linked to mothers returning to work which I did (part time) when DS was about 8 months - but it was something I recall reading about in the baby development books.

This is a classic age for separation anxiety, and will pass

Don't challenge it too much, just be around him lots and go with it. It will pass and quite quickly too, but will take lots longer if you push him. Found that out to my cost

Thanks for all your replies, really appreciate the advice, will reassure my daughter it's a phase that will pass. I'd forgotten how hard this all is!!!
