Does anyone have a 1yo who ^doesn't^ wear grobags at night?

Can I ask a really stupid question - what do you cover them with at night at this time of year? Blankets? Sheets? How many layers?

Ds2 (14mo) is kicking up the most awful fuss about being put into his grobag atm (has worn them since day 1) so I am going to try him with more traditional bedding, but don't know how much of it he should have. His room is about 18 degrees at night, if that makes a difference.

mine had nothing - he had a baby gro and a thick fleecey one over the top. He hated blankets and things. Tolerated growbags until he could stand in the cot and then used to get really cross about them because they got caught around his feet and sometimes made him fall over.

Have you tried a cot sized duvet (Ikea do them). I never did but as soon as DS got into a single bed he instantly loved his duvet, whereas he had always hated being covered by anything before.

DD is alos 14 months and we use a light duvet which appears fine at the moment. SHe does kick it off some times so I always pop it back on when I got to bed. She doesn't wake up cold/hot so would appear to be fine. When it warms up a bit I will swap over to a light blanket. Hope that is of some use.

Yep, a little light duvet, with a sheet underneath if it's cold!

elliepac · 01/05/2009 16:53

Babies R Us do the cot sized duvets by the way, that's where we got ours from.

Ds has never liked going in his grobag. He is 10 mo. I had all of dd's saved and they have all since been given away. He is a bit of an athletic sleeper (!) so it would be great if he liked them but I can see why he doesn't. He has a cellular blanket and a cot duvet from Ikea. I know advice is not to have a duvet, but we co slept until 6 mo and he was covered by my duvet then so I couldn't see the problem. I have 2 duvets and 3 covers (they are very cheap) and about 4 or 5 blankets. I don't think I need that much, but I know if he is ever ill we can get through a few changes a day.
He sleeps in a vest and sleepsuit if that helps. I tried some cute pajamas from Jojo Maman Bebe that we were given but the next morning he was proudly jumping about with his nappy off so we like to contain it with a million poppers now

DD didn't like her grobag. She has a very light duvet and at that age (she's 13m) she can easily kick it off it she is hot or whatever. Sometimes, I just put the duvet up to her waist if I think she may get a bit hot.

ohdearwhatamess · 01/05/2009 17:01

Hmm, was hoping to make do with blankets and sheets we had rather than buy a new duvet and covers that won't get used for long.

His feet are bare too - gave up trying to wrestle him into sleepsuits with poppers many weeks ago.

In that case I would maybe have a sheet and a blanket. I am sure he will be fine with that. I wouldn't worry about the feet too much. I too have given up with sleepsuits and DD often kicks covers off and she's fine. If you are worried could you maybe put socks on over night? Although having said that DD's favourite game is see how many times she can take her socks off in one day!

Have gone with a cellular blanket and a fleecy blanket. Much less fuss about going to bed (so far) tonight compared to usual.

My DS sometimes uses grobags but other times not (depends whats clean lol)
When not in grobag he will wear vest and fleecy sleepsuit (you can get sleepsuits with zips! much easier to wrestle them in to!)
or vest and pj's and blanket over bottom half which I re-tuck him under when I go to bed

TottWriter · 01/05/2009 19:28

My DS has the all in one suit (not sure of by grobag you mean the sleepingbag thing!) Right now he wears that and a vest, with a small quilt my grandmother made. It's thicker than a blanket but thinner than a duvet. we have other blankets hanging around, and if it's colder then we add layers.

thisisyesterday · 01/05/2009 19:46

neither of mine have ever used grobags.
we just used blankets til they were about a year, then got a thin cot duvet from mothercare.

atm ds2 (18m) is wearing short pj's, no vest, and the duvet

LittleMissBliss · 01/05/2009 19:51

ds 18 months has a cot bed and duvet. he kicks it off drinking his milk as he gets quite hot. I put it back over him when i go to bed but he wriggles allot so prob spends half the night with it off. This is same summer and winter. We just adjust his pjs to the weather.

Last night was a disaster, with ds2 awake for most of it (normally sleeps through). I think perhaps the grobag-sleep association is more important for him than I appreciated (even if he hates being in it when awake).
