Since coming back after Easter the funding for my 1-1 support has been cut from 20 hours a week to 10 hours a week. I also volunteered the rest of my time to give the child contiuouse 1-1 support.
Before Easter my 1-1 was doing relay well the violant outbursts were almost non exsistant. Most of the time he was happy hoewever he was not ready for his support to be dramaatically dropped due to the fact that we were only starting to work on self control.

Today however we have had the day from hell! Here is just some of the things that took place.
1st we had a tantrum because he was not allowed to leave his bike helmet in schoolso had a wobbler at 8:55am.
2nd he was sent from assembly beacuse he was hitting the people in front in the back
3rd Did lovly cutting and sticking.
4th At lunch he kicked me as I was not letting him leave until he had finished his lunch.
5th He called me stupid during PE.
6th Shouted at me stuck his tounge out repeatidly whilst outside so I sent him in at this he kicked the tyre. He then was sent with me to the head bby the teacher.
My question is on 10 hours a week what the hell can I do?
The child is lovly realy.
Am very frustrated as all my work is being undone by the system,

Was it the schools choice to cut funding?

Is that 2hrs a day you spend with him then?

No where near enough. He needs you at least 1st thing in the morning, preferbly during his hardest lesson of the day, and lunchtime, as well as some time for him and you to maybe have 1-1 doing something without other children around.

I remember a little girl (when I used to be a student in BTEC ND in EYCCE). she had 1-1 with her SEN helper, who greeted her in the morning, stayed with her during Maths, reading and music. stayed in door with her at lunch and then when all the other children came in, she would take her outside to have her 'own playtime' as she most of the time was too aggressive towards others.

Is it the LEA that have sent you to be with him? cant you take it up with them?

No its the LEA who have changed the funding. The LEA have a brand new system which basically meens that all 1-1 supports are on short term by term contracts. The school hires me but the money comes from the lEA and not the budget. The LEA has alco gone silent. They will not reply to letters, orphone calls or anything. You ring up wnationg to talk to the person who can sort it and evry time they are no tavailable. It is sooo frustaationg and sad for teh children.

too right it is...'Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families
Rt Hon Ed Balls MP' needs to fix up!

" His principal focus will be to ensure that every child gets the best possible start in life, that they are safe and healthy, that they secure the highest standards of achievements, that they enjoy their childhood and that they can make a positive contribution to society free from the effects of poverty.
