9 weeks old- doesn't really look at me

DS2 is not keen on eye contact. he can and will fix and focus but only looks at me occasionally when i'm holding him. when i pick hiom up he usually looks to the side, same with DH.
he watches ds1 toddling around and looks around at things but doesn't like prolonged eye contact.
is it because i only breastfed for 4 weeks?

When you say he looks to the side, do you mean he looks away completely, or that he's focussed at the edge of your face? DS used to always seem to be looking over my shoulder when he was tiny - I believe it's because they find the edges of things interesting! It's also not surprising if he finds moving things (like ds1) more interesting than stationary ones.

I doubt it's anything to do with how long or short a time you breastfed him for - the smiling and laughing shows that he's happy in your company.

he looks completely to the side- his cheek is to me.
DS1 used to gaze at me for hours.
maybe he's a bit more nosey?

Well, it sounds like he's very interested in what's going on around him, which has to be a good thing. Plus if he's happy when he does interact with you, it doesn't sound like there's anything to be worried about there. I guess it's maybe just one of those "they're all different" kinds of things?

no

it's funny isn;t it- i woke him up after his nap this afternoon adn was greeted by a huge gummy grin.
he seems to laugh and smile when i'm hollering at DS1 more than anything- maybe he's used to hearing it from the womb?!

thanks for the kind words re: breastfeeding. I thought i had proven the 'bottle fed babies don't bond as well' theory- which i never believed before as it takes two hands to bottle feed but only one to brestfeed (none if you have a good cushion )
