What do you do when your baby just won't be calmed?

I have 4mo dts. They take it in turns to scream the house down every day and after feeding, changing, rocking, letting them kick on the playmat and trying to settle them to sleep I still can't calm them. As there are 2 it is even more difficult to devote the time to one child but I am getting desperate now and need any tips people have about calming their little horrors.

Maybe put this in multiple births?

Put them in the buggy? Even inside and push them back and forwards over a slight bump - eg a rug on the floor.

Take them out for a walk?
and maybe ask a gp about whether there could be a problem like reflux?

I only have one little darling but when he was this age i found laying him on a pillow, face down (but turned to side) across my lap whilst i giggled my legs and patted his back seemed to work. Made him mad as hell for a few minutes but then would calm down.

Put some music on - something fun and jolly like Abba

Sing along loudly while jigging them about.

Works for us every time

Whistling can stop a crying fit in its tracks

As can raspberry blowing on the tummy.

Saying "SHHHHHH" as loud as you can sometimes works (you drown them out with it but it's quite a nice noise

And finally top tip: Try a Slumber Bear on white noise option, loudest volume. If no Slumber Bear then put the hairdryer on full blast.

I found that once my dcs were around 4 months, they would not lie down and preferred to be carried around sitting up, facing outwards. More alert and getting bored.

Taking them out in a buggy is good. The change of environment and movement snaps them out of it simultaneously, and eventually sends them to sleep.

Both my dcs needed my active input to fall asleep. Hence lots of buggy walks around nap times.

Have you tried a white noise, like hairdryer/tumble dryer? I know it sounds a bit silly, but white noise did help DS1 calm down and fall asleep.

The things I used to settle my DS:

Hoover or buy a white noise CD for about £2 off ebay.

Vibrating bouncy chair.

Holding and dancing or very vigorous jigging with music on TV.

Holding while standing and breastfeeding and swaying- yes, all at once and I appreciate this is difficult with 2.

Trying different holding positions, mainly upright- again I appreciate the difficulty with 2.

In the buggy and rocking back and forward.

Dummy- my DS had a dummy at 5mths, didn't want it before then.

Going for a drive in the car with music on or out of tune radio so there is a loud buzzing noise.

Feed, feed and then feed some more.
