Should a 2.7 year old be able to jump?

DS can't. He can't even manage a convincing attempt, and yet we know many children 6 months younger and more who jump around all the time. He also has a very babyish run still, though at tumbletots he climbs and balances at least as well as the rest of the children.

Should I be concerned or is this perfectly normal? I can't seem to find anything online about it.

no, perfectly normal

Oh thanks. I haven't been agonising over it but nowhere does it say "If you child can't jump by X date then there may be a problem."

it is really easy to compare your child to everyone else's but we really shouldn't!
they all develop differently and at different rates.
I work with pre-schoolers and some of them can't jump, and they are 3 and 4.
We expect so much from our children, that we analyse every move they make, and we all di it, don't we?
If you think about it, even all adults don't have the same skills. I get my left and right mixed up and I'm 42!

Oh really? Well that is very reasuuring, thanks. I know I shouldn't compare and I don't actually care that he can't do it, it's just that he is not like most of the boys we know, always hurling themselves about and jumping As long as there is nothing to worry about I won't care if he can't jump for years.

I suspect our parents weren't fussing over all this.

My DS has only been able to jump with both feet at 30m - think its because he's quite big so he's got more weight to shift and balance is an issue. BTW he also walked a little later at 14m. Either way, don't worry he'll soon be bouncing around non-stop once he gets it!
