Extreme Teething...

Hi - my 14 month old is going through what seems like the most extreme case of teething ever. His whole mouth is swollen inside, his gums are bleeding and he has an ulcer on his lip. Needless to say he is completely miserable and crying pretty much constantly.

I have taekn him to the docs to check for infection, but she said there is no infection and prescribed calpol and bonjela (suddenly controversial today!).

He has had a temp of over 100 on and off for over a week and it doesn't seem to be getting any better...

Is this all normal or have I got a real problem on my hands??? HELP!

we had the same issue. i found that dentinox is better than bonjela. you may need stronger pain relief and keep it up round the clock.

One thing DS really liked at this time was a semi frozen bottle of any liquid. when it was at its worst he could not eat so just had loads of very cold bottles which seemed to help as well as gave him comfort. i just mixed the pain killers in with the milk and applied dentinox between bottles and before bed.

If this persists I would recommend taking him to see the dentist.

General Practitioners are only able to offer general advice and aren't experts in oral problems and can often miss things.

But thank god for Dentinox, in my experience it is the most effective topical pain relief for babies. Nelson's Teething granules work a treat too.

Thank you, this is great advice! I am heading out to buy the Dentinox right now.

I am also going to take him to the Detist, although getting an appointmet with one in London is another story . Cant hurt to introduce him to the detist even if the teething has finished by then.

Thanks again

xx

Ds is now 20 mo and teething is still an issue. his favourite trick now is to look for some dentinox tubes and take the lid of and suck. he does not get that much before i find him in the silance but it works for him.

sometimes he likes to go to sleep holding the tube. he finds it very comforting.
