Ds, nearly three, finally speaking quite a lot - but virtually impossible to understand for anybody but me. When does this become a cause for concern?

any concerns over hearing? sounds very much like my dd, I was blissfully ignorant until playgroup suggested a hearing test. Turns out she had severe glue ear and had grommets last year, speech now really different. She did get referred for speech therapy at 3 by her playgroup so if you're worried it's probably worth asking to be put on the waiting list for an assessment.

OK just a little tip - a GP can see signs of glue ear with their little light instrument. He.she would be able to tell you if suspect glue ear, and then refer you for hearing test.

I'm only saying that because my GP didn't look in DS's ears, and sent us to a audiologist (3 months waiting list) and DS would have been on a faster waiting list if glue ear was suspected by GP.

My DS is nearly 3 and speaks alot - though speaks so fast its hard to understand what he is saying alot of the time. I spoke to a speech therapist at our local surestart centre and she said its normal at this age - if its still happening at 4, then it may be a cause for concern...
