2 year old teething HELL - Help!

My dd (2.2) appears to have been teething for the last week and it is a nightmare...she has high temps, runny nose, diarrhea, and is generally moany and whingy and it's driving me crazy!

She refuses medicine most of the time (when I do manage to dose her up she's sooooo much better), and won't drink her mlk/water if I try to sneak it in.

She's so miserable, and clearly in pain, and I'm at a loss. I don't remember ds1 going through this.

It's the constant whinging that's getting to me...what can I do? And how long will this last?

if she is so much btter when you mdoes her up then you must find a way to get it into her

can you bear to lay her down and straddle her with her arms by her side and then syringe it into the side and at the back?

or can she be convinced with sweets or something??

hope she feels better very soon

constantreader · 17/04/2009 22:30

yeah, that might be my only option. I even bought some Tylenol chewy tablets (am in USA) thinking I could fool her into believing it was a sweet, but no. She's wise to me.

Any idea how long this takes?

(Tell me it will be over by tomorrow)

I really dont know

and she may just be ill

OR it could be teething and it may be over very soon

constantreader · 17/04/2009 22:50

pretty sure it's the teething that's making her ill. her cheeks are scarlet.

but, thank god, i managed to get some ibuprofen into her, just waiting for it to take effect

thanks Trinity

We have to do the 'chocolate button' bribe to get any meds in. DD is teething and miserable, sore, bad nappies, grumpy, tearful.... and me too!

At 3am the other night/morning(!) I had to open a fecking (sorry to swear) pack of CBs to get her to take nurofen. Hey ho, it worked.

One button, syringe, one button, one to get her back to bed. Done, dusted in 5 mins.

Good luck, I am with you on this one!

constantreader · 17/04/2009 23:00

oh, i am not above bribery, am likig the cb's idea...

it's her i feel (most) sorry for as she's clearly so unhappy, but i do feel pretty sorry for myslef too. I's such a shame (for me)

Oh I know, today I was just saying 'what is wrong, tell Mummy, show Mummy, hug?, no? please ... no... hmmmm.... chocolate button perhaps?'

My DD is not an eater, she will actually spit out cake, bread, biscuits, etc as she is not bothered so I know if CBs get rejected we are very close to her being super poorly.

She does not eat cheese either... I tell you, if she rejects red wine she is no child of mine!!

I was told by a very wise MNer that a toddlers life revolves around CBs and she is SO right.

can you get Medised in the US? My sister used this for her DS1 when he was teething cos it was the only way that her, her husband her DD and the fecking dog could get any sleep.

constantreader · 18/04/2009 14:35

no medised here - did have some over from the uk but have run out

had hellish night last night - she was up at midnight, burning hot, did take some medicine but promptly vomited everywhere..cue quick sheet change whle hearing ds2 (17 weeks) screaming for me too...dh in sleeping tablet induced coma due to an operation he had earlier in the week...it's all fun here. And now I have an ear infection which is killing me!!!

At least ds1 is fine. He's busy making 'get well soon' cards for everyone

SazzleA - 6 weeks!!!! AAARGH!
