DS 9 months, teething terribly, help!!

DS is 9 months and is teething and I am sooo stressed out. He won't eat anything solid I offer him, he will only take his bottle and as a result is waking in the night upset and hungry. He normally has 3 bottles of formula a day (takes approx 6 floz per feed), as he isn't interested in solids would you up his milk feeds ie. offer one at lunchtime if he doesn't take his solid food?
He has spent the last few days whimpering and upset despite being dosed up on calprofen, ashtons teething powders and bonjela. Poor little man, we both collapsed in my DH arms tonight when he came home from work.
I am due to go back to work in a couple of weeks and he'll be going to nursery, I am worried that he'll still be like this and it will be just horrid for him, I am already feeling utterly guilty about leaving him.

Are you sure it's teething and he's not unwell?

Wigglesworth · 16/04/2009 21:12

He doesn't appear to be unwell, his temperature is fine, no V and D, I did wonder whether I should take him to the doctors just in case.

It's hard to say with babies. If there's no fever/rashes/D&V then it's unlikely to be an illness but it is possible. I used to use liquid anbesol when ds was teething, it's a local anaesthetic so works wonders for teething pain.

I'll second anbesol - it worked wonders for ds1 who sounds a lot like your ds

What foods are you offering?

I have found when DD is teething she will eat something cold from fridge.

You could try a yogurt or something....

DD normally feeds herself chunks of food but when teeth are coming through wants to revert back to puree (and she is 14mths!!) for a couple of days....

Is not nice, I feel for you and your DS obv!!)

I feel for both you and your DS. when DS1 cut his teeth he didnt know what to do with himself. DS2 hasnt been too bad but we've only got 2 so far. i gave him ice-cream when they were actually coming through the skin and he loved the coldness in his mouth. Both boys have gone of savoury foods when they are teething wanting fruit purees and custard.
