I've just given birth to DS4 and i've noticed he has one main crease across the palm of his hand instead of two. MyDS3 also has this and it apparently can be a sign of chromosomal problems such as Downs or other conditions. DS3 appears fine (he's 4 now) so i didn't worry too much with him but now DS4 also has it and its quite rare in the gweneral population (internet says 1-3%), i'm worried they both have some condition which will show up later. Not all chromosomal problems are apparent from birth apparently. Would be grateful to know if anyone else has experience of it. Can it run in families?

Yes it runs in families. I have it. Dd has it. Ds has it in both hands. We're all fine Your ds is too I'm sure.

1% to 3% of the population is not rare!

My DH has it, he is the founder and sole owner of a multinational PR and advertising agency.

Tony Blair has bilateral (both hands) simian crease. (imho he is not 'normal' though )

It is actually to do with the length of the bones in the hand (carpals/meta carpals? - sorry human physiology and anatomy were a v. long time ago!)

My DS has bilateral creases, I didn't notice until he was 20 mths although he does have SN (moslty CP related). The 4 downs DC I know do not have bilateral creases, I think one has a single.

Sorry, it has been pointed out that I have worded that wrongly - the 4 DC with Downs Syndrome.

Apologies that in my rush to type I got the order wrong.
