I was looking at another thread here where a woman is worried about her 9month old not producing solid poos over the last few days. My dd rarely produces a solid one, they are usually quite wet albeit not 'watery.' I feed her SMA follow on milk at bedtime and first thing in the morning and she drinks water the rest of the day. Could the follow-on milk be giving her wet poos? She's not unwell otherwise.

I wasnt worried about it until just now

i have been worrying about this too. my 14 mth old always does loose pale poo, was beginning to worry about celieac disease

valleysprincess · 15/04/2009 20:04

I'm not sure about babies but I know that pale poos in adults (that float the surface of the loo) are as a result of fat in the stools. My dd's poos are usually pretty dark in colour and have interesting bits that look like chilli's in them sometimes.

ah the classic poo stories!

My 14mth old DD does very loose poos.

Roughly 3 times a day.

One last week was so bad (TMI alert) it oozed out of nappy and dripped onto floor and me as I carried her up to bath

She is severely intolerant to all dairy & soya and has just been tested for celiac (sp) disease amongst other things.

If all tests come back negative then pead says it may just be toddler diarrhoea which she will grow out of

valleysprincess · 15/04/2009 20:11

Does she appear to be unwell in any other way Simpson? How did you know to get her tested?

TBH it was just my gut instinct when she was around 9-10mths that something wasn't right (I thought there was a problem with dairy)and our GP refered her to hosp.

If you are worried your GP should be able to refer you for tests.

Having said that it has been a hard slog to get her tested. She first when to hosp when she was 10mths old and now she is nearly 15mths

Normal pead hard work but last wk we saw a different woman who says her poo not normal etc and we had the tests done. Which were blood tests BTW.

DD is fine in herself although has very sore bum all the time I tend to take her to be weighed more often as a LO with severe runny poo may not put weight on as quick.

What is your HV like? Can you mention it to her first?

oops, now I'm getting worried too, my 8 & a half month old also has very loose stools (very rarely are they a bit solid). Should I ask the GP about it? Should I ask to be referred to a paediatrician? Didn't know this was cause for concern...

kalo12 · 15/04/2009 21:05

seems like its common so probably ok

fledtoscotland · 15/04/2009 21:08

DS1 has soft verging on runny poos when he eats loads of fruit or had chilli. the colour also varies depending on what he's eaten. we often get whole raisins and pieces of carrot.

he probably only does one "solid" poo in a week but i think this is normal for him as he's not in anyway ill.

valleyprincess - i would trust your instinct and if she's not unwell, then just monitor it

simpson · 15/04/2009 21:13

maria - if your LO is otherwise ok then should be fine.

I just knew there was a problem with dairy so thats why I went to docs.

Have also seen dietician and she said to up the carbs and cut down on fruit and veg slightly so going to try that over the next few days.

Agree with fledtoscotland that raisins seem to not help and bad mummy, DD has eaten loads today, am dreading tom
