Entertaining a 6mth baby with short attention span!

My DD is almost 6mths and will only last on her activity mat/vibrating chair/bouncy chairs for about 5 minutes before getting bored and starting to cry.

She enjoys one-to-one play and being carried around. The only thing that she'll do on her own for any length of time is watch In The Night Garden. I am dying to find her an independent activity that she'll enjoy for more than 5 mins that doesn't involve TV! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

She is only 6 months.

All these activity type chairs/mats etc are incredibly over-stimualting after a short period. My boys hated them.

I just used to put a Blanket down with afew toys on. They still whinged like hell.

I do think expecting a baby so young to entertain themselves for longer than a few minutes is a little bit unrealistic!

She is so young

Thanks. I know that 6 months is very young but I see friends' children of exactly the same age (particularly the boys) bouncing away and enjoying time on their mats. I adore DD but do envy my friends' ability to put their children down for 5 mins!

Thanks Marla. Row row row your boat is a big hit in my house too and I have never walked so much in my life. Perhaps am just being lazy. She only watches 30 mins of TV a day (although more if DH is around and sport is on!).

My dd2 is very clingy and doesn't really like her playmat. SHe loves being carried round and kows just how loud to tun the volume on her screaming so we will pick her up.
She loves being out so she has 2 walks a day minimum more when I am on my own ( I have another dd).
SHe loves mirrors and reflections so I can lie her on the floor by the bath ( tiled). I don' t have bouncers, walkers etc and it wares me down esp as I need to also play with dd2 ...But to quote ' this too will pass'
