Scared of pop-up books

I'm guessing this is just a stage, but my 17 mth old DS looks quite fearful afraid and physically moves away from pop-up books.
I just wondered if anybody elses DC were like this and if so, when they grew out of it?
TIA

Never heard of it, but it does make sense for some kids to be fearful of the unexpected. I wouldn't worry (and I wouldn't force it either),

My dd likes pop ups but hates teh 'Boris' book - you know the one with the glove puppet - she always says no boris and will push it away, it makes her quiet anxious if she thinks it might be read, so it has been put away till she is ready for it, so i can understand that your little chap might not like pop ups. you could try simply lift the flap books first - like I wrote to the Zoo..to send me a book (campbell)and progress to pop ups later.

My son was extremely scared of a Rod Campbell book - especially the last page with roaring lion at around this age. Also scared of a 'Dudley' book (like Boris with a glove puppet).

Can't remember when he grew out of it exactly but he did later LOVE them!!

thank you for posting.
he loves lift the flap books, he's got quite a few of those. i just wondered if it was common really. i'll pack them away for a few months.
he met his baby cousin yesterday, who is a few days old and seemed slightly fearful of her too. in other ways, he is so outgoing and approaches and grins at everyone he sees. but then in other ways, he can seem quite anxious about little things. lovely how his personality is becoming more apparent now

A friends little girl would cry every time she saw another child and stay close to her mum (she was 13- 15 mos at the time) she has grown out of it now, so don't worry. Little babies make odd noises and jerky movements that your ds might not like cos they are unpredictable.

my dd goes the other way and shrieks in delight at any new born - can't tell you the number of times I've had to apologise to the mum for their little ones being woken up by dd's shrieks!!

thanks messymissy. my new niece was soundly asleep at the time, but i think it was because he hasn't seen a newborn before. am sure they'll be the best of friends before long!
i think it's cute your dd shrieks in delight, that's lovely!
