Is crying uncontrolably while watching dvd's normal?

DD age 6 started this about 6 months ago. Is it just a phase? It doesn't matter if it's a happy or sad bit, she will still cry. Even all the old disney favourites:- Pooh, Tinkerbell, Care bears all revoke the same reaction
Anyone with a similar experience, will she grow out of it?

sounds weird

I don't know if it could just be her way of letting out emotion? She does get pretty stressed out at school?

Mine have a tendency to do this from time to time but usually only about sad things. Animal Farm made DS#2 sob for hours and hours.

Has anything else happened recently to make her feel more sensitive? Have you asked her why?

karise · 07/04/2009 14:08

She says she's 'just letting the feelings out'

I still cry at anything - even the andrex ads. But don't use me as an example. I'm just a saddo.

I think it's probably healthy that she can discharge her emotions like this.

How is she otherwise (is she quite emotional/ tantrummy at other times?)

yappybluedog · 09/04/2009 09:31

my younger sister has always been like this - she sobbed so loudly in the cinema watching ET that the people sat in front of us complained she was about 6/7 at the time, she's the same now

Very rarely tantrums, but can be stubborn!
Maybe it's just the stubborn bit holding it all in at other times? Went out with some kids from school today & DD fell over, obviously hurt hersalf but tried everything she couls not to cry or come to me for a cuddle!

I was just like this as a child, although otherwise happy. Happy or sad books and films still make me sob like a maniac. I'm honestly perfectly normal otherwise! Is she maybe just a bit of an emotional child?

I always have to take a box of tissues to the cinema with me.

screamingabdab · 09/04/2009 19:10

karise sounds like that's it - she obv. feels safe to let it all out at home. Good on her

I cried at the 'Bob the Builder' Big Fish Little Fish music video on Cbeebies.co.uk today. I know how she feels!

Plonker · 10/04/2009 22:25

I'm 33 and am just the same. A piece of music can be enough to set me off

My dd's are also like me. My eldest used to get stressed and cry watching 'Winne the Pooh and his blustery day' ffs ...not to mention 'The Forgotten Toys' ...

Bless
