How to entertain a 3mo baby?

My DS is 3mo. I'm noticing he needs actual entertaining more and more, or he lets me know he's bored! Here are the things I've found he likes so far...

  • being talked to / sung to / read to
  • going outside for a walk in the sling (his favourite - totally absorbing)
  • looking at the mirror on his mobile
  • gently swinging in one of those baby bouncer things you hang from a door (he has strong neck muscles and can keep his head up fine)

What do / did you do with your 3mo? I'd really appreciate any tips.

TIA

It was about this age that my DD loved photos of herself, me and DH. I suppose it's similar to the mirror thing. She was fascinated.

i haven't tried them yet, but there are baby massage videos on youtube. just watching this - generally we just make it up as we go along though!

just get on with your life around him, singing and chatting as you do and he'll absrb it all in watching his most favourite and stimulating thing- you

news just in - the phrases 'boy oh boy' and 'ooh baby baby' (from push it by salt n pepa) are inordinately entertaining for a 3 and a half month old. not so much for a 37 year old after 150th repeat, but i will do whatever it takes to stretch the times between feeds.

I'm picking up all these tips too, am struggling to entertain my 3 month old. The one thing I have found is lying her ona blanket and they lying down next to her looking at her and just chatting to her, repeating her noises. Also holding her hands and encouraging her to roll from back to side.

Otherwise she likes her bouncy chair thing with characters hanging off it

stainesmassif hee hee that's a great mental image.
Thanks for the link, I'll have a look when I'm back home (on holiday and only have dial-up here).

We've also discovered my DS sometimes really likes being laid on his back and having his belly tapped gently.

we love the bouncy chair too - to a point.

today i was singing along to the radio - creep, by radiohead - and he went from smiling, giggly gorgeous baby to complete meltdown in one second. art rock is not a good way to entertain this baby!

My LO seems to like ska. He thinks mummy bouncing around to ska is the funniest thing ever. (Apparently some adults agree )

I used to just carry DS around in a sling as I did the housework or he would lie on his play mats with a few rattles scattered around and I would give him a running commentary of what I was doing. He seemed to enjoy it. Apart from that I wouldn't say I really entertained him though. Oh and he liked listening to a nursery rhyme cd.

stainesmassif · 14/04/2009 08:33

oh, just thought of another activity that i've forgotten about for the last couple of weeks - watching mummy do the wii fit. hilarious!!!

have hoovered with ds in the sling, he passed out immediately.

My boy (3 months) is all about being pulled up to standing on his wobbly little fat legs and shouting and yelping happily. Best thing ever. Then wobbles to floor. Then cries to be pulled up. Then wobbles to the floor. Repeat until Mummy tires of it.

Ooh, standsyupsys! Great fun. Love this thread, thanks lowrib.

Lowrib - my LO likes ska as well. I think it's the beat.

Mine also likes when you lie down next to her and copy the sounds she make. She gets this big smile on her face like it's the best thing ever.
