Do your DC still have recognisably the same personalities they had as babies?

Ds is 10 months and I was talking to other mums with DC the same age today about how much they all have very definite personalities these days (all the babies were at the sleep, eat, cry stage when we first met). I was wondering if people found their children grew up to be similar to how they were as babies.

If you had a shy/ timid/ boisterous/ inquisitive/ fearless/ laid-back/ whatever else baby did they stay that way as they grew up or did they go through a lot of different phases?

I haven't got any real purpose in asking - just curious

I'm not quite sure what we're in for if the:

hellish baby --> great toddler,
perfect baby --> hellish toddler

theory holds true.

DS had quite a difficult early babyhood, lots of screaming, colic, meltdowns for no obvious reason. I read a lot about high-needs, demanding babies because he did seem to be one. Around 6 months someone described him to me as a laid-back, relaxed baby who they'd never seen cry and it made me look at him as he was instead of how he had been and realise it was true (or nearly, he does still cry a bit).

I'd say he is a fairly laid-back chap and it's very easy to make him laugh. Will be interesting to see how he's getting on in 2, 5 or 10 years time...

although DS1 is now a bit of a whingey misery guts, he is still the same confident, inquisitive, stubborn, opinionated, but ultimately caring and thoughtful child he was when he was a baby and toddler.....he was patting me on the back at four months old .....I need to see past the whingyness sometimes to the child within

Although I do agree with DICE, hellish baby --> great toddler, and vice versa, mine have been such because they've totally retained their characteristics from the moment they popped out (and presumably some time before - I always remember DD's arms spinning round like they were on brass paper fasteners in her 12wk scan - and they still do, along with the rest of her!) which I find astounding.

DD was a hellish baby because she is just such a social animal. The only time she was happy was when she was meeting people/interracting. That's always made her a dream toddler/school child - although she's still very demanding.

DS was a divine baby - once we'd sorted out his milk protein probs that gave him horrendous screaming fits. He has always amused himself and got engrossed in his toys and games. This is making him a hellish toddler because he only wants to be engrossed in his own stuff. Take that car off him/try to get him to do something he doesn't want to and he explodes into the horrendous screaming fits he also had as a baby!

From what I've seen so far, I think mine are deffo as they were 'created', and will be for life.

Dd was always very easy and at 4 still is really- we seemed to bypass the terrible 2's completely and she is very content. Ds is 10mo and has been a determined little thing from the word go. I think he will have a stubborn streak, he certainly knows what he wants. One if the things that really struck me after having ds was just how different their personalities are. With dd, I had always smugly assumed that parents who needed to babyproof, or use reigns, the list could go on, were just not paying attention. Little did I know eh? I have already broken my first rule of parenting by buying a babycage playpen. There was a thread I commented on when I was pregnant with ds from someone asking if a playpen was necessary and I just said 'whatever for???' Well, now I know, and whoever that was let me apologise now
