DS3 is/was a climber. I decided which "battles" to fight - so the window sill and dining room table were places I took him down off repeatedly - didn't bother saying no as he just laughed and it seemed to make him more keen to do it.

Other places (sofa, chairs etc) I've just turned a blind eye to and he's getting better now (22 months)

its not the climbing so much as the fact he is a total daredevil and will deliberatly walk to the edge laughing.

oh let him - if he falls - he either won't do it again, or he'll be more careful next time

TheLadyEvenstar · 03/04/2009 12:13

FAQ lol thats what we have as well. I am a bag of nerves lol

Corner-protectors.
Lots of cushions on the floor and around the edges of sharp furniture.

Let him get on with it. As FAQ says, first time he falls, he'll stop. The more you tell him no, the more he'll want to do it.

Our 15 mo twin boys are most definitely taking after Sir Edmund Hillary, why, they get on the window sill in 3 seconds flat and try to keep on climbing. Dancing on the sofa, walking on the coffee table, etc. They work as a team as well, while I'm getting one wriggling wriggly thing down, the other has popped happily up on the same elevated spot and sits{stands{jumps there giggling....
They will grow out of it.... I hope

Roll, I hope so too, i found him on the freezer 15 minutes ago. I thought he was playing (in hallway where courtyard doors are I have all his BIG toys) But noooo he had pushed his fridge over and used it to climb up!!!!!!!!!!!! he is now asleep!!!!!!! woohoooooo

Tumble tots!!

my dd climbs every where too, a good run around and climbing at Tumble tots helps a lot, uses up her energy and helps her to climb more safely!

I think once they find out how fun it is to be adventurous you can't stop them...just try to keep it safe.

I got a couple of toddler stools from Ikea, they help a lot as she uses those now instead of her play fridge or washing machine -and if I am out of site doing the washing etc I can hear her drag them along - forewarned is forearmed! Although this morning it was a stack of teddies to get to my earrings which I thought were safely out of reach on the window sill!

TheLadyEvenstar · 03/04/2009 13:03

Messy lol so glad i am not alone lmao.

I am exhausted by the time he stops

You are definitely not alone!

my dd's inventiveness on how she reaches things makes me laugh, which i hope reduces the grey hairs and near heart attack she gives me when i see her teetering on the arm of the sofa!

yep exhausted too!

annoyingdevil · 03/04/2009 13:44

I have two climbers and agree that you should let them go for it, whilst attempting to ensure they're as safe as possible.

How much damage would they actually do to themselves falling from a sofa? Probably not much and they'd be unlikely to do it twice.

Unfortunately, DD has now progressed to trees, which is another worry
