He's a fussy eater. Am trying to deal with it by being as laid back as possible as the more I stress about mealtimes, the more difficult he can be. Have tried battling at mealtimes, bribery, distraction etc to no avail.
He eats no vegetables at all (I make hidden veg pasta sauce twice a week which he loves), won't eat wet food (except pasta and sauce)and only eats banana or humzingers (weird dried fruit things) in the fruit dept. He drinks plenty of water.
In the last few weeks he's only been pooing twice a week. He doesn't seem to be suffering with tummy ache or any other constipation symptoms but it can't be good for him to poo so infrequently.
So, in short, some suggestions for other foods which will help his digestive system would be much appreciated.

try again

My DS has suffered with constipation since he was about 5 months old, he is now 2.4.

He will eat prunes (the wholefood fancier ones which are more moist) so they are a worth a try.

I have found the less milk he has the better he is. Also bananas are a very rare treat ie monthly as they really exacerbate the constipation.

Fluid, fluid, fluid is what has made the biggest difference to us. He still only drinks one large cup per day though.

water water water and then more. buy little sucky bottles.
and even if you only have a small space on a window sill plant some seeds with him and grow some veg to eat. it works a treat.

The reason they suggest not to give too many wholegrains to children under 5 is because they fill their small stomachs up and they don't have enough room to eat other foods to get the nutrients they requires.

To get in more fruit and veg can I suggest pureeing fruits in a blender with milk to make a fruit milkshake, home made soup by blending veg, and blending veg and mashing into potato, perhaps increasing the lumps gradually. Also making ice lollies out of fruit juice.

I think that children also need to drink plenty to stop them being constipated.

I was out with friends today and they had made their chocolate rice krispie nest cakes with sultanas in and they were delicious!

Not a perfect solution, but a way of getting dried fruit into a very picky eater?

smoothie ice lollies

thanks everyone. Exciting poo news in the shopping bags household - he's now going every day again. He's having 2 cups of smoothie a day (is mad on innocent carrot and mango), 1 lolly made with pureed apricots and 1 humzinger thing (and some days has some fresh strawberries or banana). I know he's still not eating veg but baby steps...
