19 month old waking each night wanting juice

Hi,
Our 19 month old used to sleep through the night. For about the past 2 weeks she wakes, sits up and calls for us & juice.

We don't think she's teething cos not showing any pain...

What's the best way to stop this- go into her and tell her no, ignore her ( I don't think so) or what?

Cheers,
pa.

just say no. once you start, it gets really difficult to stop. leave a bottle of water on the side and give her that if she is thirsty. i give it two nights of tantrum and then it will be over. it really isn't worth starting this particular habit - before you know it you'll be up three times a night replenishing and then changing the bed sheets twice a night because the nappy won't hold that much liquid. or that's what happened to my next door neighbour anyway.
just say no. here's some water.

Agree with Mad - definitely don't give juice. If she's really thirsty, water is best. My bet is that once she realises that that is all that is on offer, she'll give up. It will take a few nights though - but don't give in.

what on earth did you start with juice for?

do you drink that every time you are thirsty?

pranma · 31/03/2009 11:17

Leave a sippy cup with some diluted juice by her bed where she can reach it herself. If she is in a cot you can get beakers with a valve that wont spill and need to be sucked to get juice out-you could tusk that down the top corner of the mattress so she knows where it is.It is probably learned behavior that if she asks for juice you will come.If you dont need to go in I expect she will soon stop waking[or switch from juice to something else].

tuck not tusk!!

slayerette · 31/03/2009 11:21

No no no to juice at night! Are you going to clean her teeth every time she's had some? If not, then she shouldn't be having anything except water at night - even diluted juice will soon rot her teeth.

What is wrong with water?

I'd put a non spill cup of water in the cot so it's there if she needs it, chances are she's not really thirsty and just wants Mummy!

Don't offer juice at night, not even diluted juice - it rots teeth.
She will drink water if she's thirsty.
