My 12 weeks old cries whenever I leave the room

Hello
This is my first time writing on here so not sure how it really works, but I could really do with some help.
Since last week my lovely son has just stated crying hysterically whenever I or my husband leaves him. Now he may just be an attention seeker like his mummy but it is driving me insane.
I would love for him to learn to be content to play on his play gym or sit in his chair even if for only 20 minutes at a time while I wash up or something.
Instead he cries himself into a frenzy and eventually to sleep. Even a cuddle etc won't soothe him once he starts.
And I have d one the checks of food, winding, nappy etc etc.
Tips please - thank you xx

PS - what does DS, DP etc etc mean

hi madmummyb if its any consolation i have the same problem too. my little boy is 10 months. i just sit him in the highchair next to me while i do the dishes etc. he seems to like watching. he used to be really clingy about 2 months ago but seems to have just grown out of it. hopefully this will happen for you.

p.s. i also dont know what ds and dp mean

hi, don't worry he just wants to be near you! I know it seems like other people have perfect babies who just sit quiety and amuse themselves; but they essentially want to be near you. I used to carry my son round the house in the sling to get things done; or in the car seat on the table so he can see what is going on, with me occasionally smilling or dancing to amuse him. He's only young, and just gets fightened, lonley or bored. I was told it can be a sign of an intelligent child who wants to learn rather than stare at the wall...?!?
DS = Darling Son, DP = Darling Partner. Check out the acronym list under 'useful stuff' on the talk line above!
