How do you manage snatching of toys with a 16 month old?

My LO is very confident and doesn't need any warm up time which can be great but also a nightmare when it comes to sharing toys with others! He took a toy yeserday, the same toy as he took from a child last play date, I said "No x is playing, you have this until its your turn"......he didn't appear to understand and got very upset kept the toy, whilst the other child just picked up something else and got on with it !
What would you have done in this situation? Was it worth a tantrum, how do they learn to share, should I have just ignored it????

Goodness, you've got a couple more years before he really understands sharing....he will learn gradually, by you showing him. If you know there are toys that are his favourites, and that would cause a real tantrum if one of his friends decided to play with them, then put those toys away, and only have kind of neutral toys out for when friends are round.
You can keep trying but don't expect much for a year or two yet!

i would take the toy off my dd and say no snatching and give it back to the other child. unfortunately my dd is normally the one who lets everyone snatsh from her and i have to let her get on with it as she needs to learn to hold on.
have you tried turn taking games, like a piece of the jigsaw each or even passing the ball back and forth.

I just feel terrible in front of other parents! The thing is when he does it and I get cross he then strokes the othetr child, but keeps the bloody toy!!! If I take it away we have tears.....2 mins later its dropped and he has forgotten about the toy anyway!
