8 month old teething and v v v clingy HELP!!

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes. My usually pleasent and happy DS is 8 months old and is getting his 4 top set of incisors at the same time and he must be feeling pretty rotten . He is very whingy and screams the second I put him down, I haven't even left the room. I have tried the carrier but it is crippling me (I am quite petite) and I am reluctant to carry him all the time. He won't eat his dinner, I have tried purees, finger food all stuff he normally loves but he has a couple of mouthfuls and then gets hysterical. I am so shattered and I have a raging cold and a painful ingrowing toenail too. Any good coping tips, we have tried Ashtons and Parsons powders, bonjella, calpol (which is a bitch to try and get down him and makes him even more upset). Please tell me it gets better.

No advice really but will be watching for any useful replies, I have a 9 month old the same, several teeth coming through and screeching at mealtimes and eating very little.

I've been giving nurofen at bedtime which seems to help, and just giving DD as much milk as she wants so she's getting enough calories and nutrients.

I too have no advice but am in same boat, is nice (in a weird way) to know am not alone.
DS2 is 9 months and all 4 top and bottom coming together, he has gone from a very happy content little boy to a restless and irritable grouch!!

Getting him to have a sleep is near impossible! Although this has only been for 3 days (and nights) so mustn't lose perspective (yet!)

Having a similar problem here - ds 8 months, has always been a fantastic sleeper but now waking up in the night like a newborn. Except when he was a newborn and woke up lots in the night he would sleep more in the day, but he is not sleeping any more in day now!!! He has been teething for I think 4 months, and no teeth have come through yet!!! He's eating fine but it's just the sleep thing....I've tried calpol and ashton and parsons, but have found a chilled teether works...for about 5 minutes til he throws it on the floor!

My 8 month old is also waking repeatedly, sobbing at times, and sleeping very badly - all seems to be related to teething. I wanted to pass on advice from a homeopath. The teething powders contain low doses of Chamomilla but you can get higher doses from a homeopath, which she swears by for calming teething babies. Don't know if it works but am going to try it - will try anything!!

Me too - my DS is 7 months old and we went through this about two months ago for the bottom teeth. It was awwffuull (I think there is still a traumatised thread on here from me somewhere). Then one day everything suddenly went back to normal and two weeks later - pop! - there they were! Now we are back there again with the top ones, only this time the nights are worse - and just when he'd dropped the night feeding, grrrr.

A & P powders work during the day but only Calpol/Nurofen touches it at night, poor little thing. Why can't humans just be born with teeth, that's what I want to know?!

artifarti · 28/03/2009 19:32

Oh - so in answer to your question Wigglesworth - yes it does get better. And then it gets rubbish again. Sigh...

I have found Ambesol to be better than bonjela. Also, are you using a syringe to get the calpol down? Much better than trying with a spoon. You can get them from the pharmacist.
