Seriously no sleep - trapped wind? - help

Last night I got 45 minutes sleep. My three week old sleeps without any problems during the day but at night he keeps waking up screaming. He appears to be going to sleep then starts crying. It happens over and over again - last night I got 45 minutes sleep and I'm so shattered I cant keep doing this for much longer.
We think it may be trapped wind that builds up through the day. We've started using Infacol and use Avent bottles with No 1 teats. He's not a good breast feeder so I'm having to express and feed him through a bottle. I also cant keep up with his demand so we're topping him up on formula.
Anyone got any ideas whats wrong? Is it likely to be wind? He writhes around and fights with you all day whether he has wind or not... I knew I was in for disturbed nights but this is just cruel!

i would use a bigger teat 2 maybe as he could be sucking so hard on teat taking in more air then milk

we had this with my ds had to leave him sitting for 10 mins after each feed had to raise head of moses basket small pillow under mattress and used grip water more affective than infacol which seemed to not help at all

we found we had to use the teats which had 123 on it you just turned it round if needed bit more we were advised the teat was too hard for him to drink from and to use number 2 as he was taking in so much air trying to drink

gripe water was a huge relief and leaving propped up after feeds good luck xx

Hi Ameliesmumvic, I have only been a mum for 8 weeks (today!) so I don't feel like too much of an expert yet but your experience sounds much the same as mine.

DD was a very windy newborn and we started using Infacol which really helped.

Are you swaddling your DC? That also helped us. DD seemed to hate it but actually sleeps much better swaddled.

We had problems with DD's latch and I think she was falling asleep before getting enough milk. Two things really helped me: I saw a BF counsellor at a baby cafe (I think they run all over the UK) and posting on Breast & Bottle Feeding. I got great advice and support there.

I think DD was about 3 weeks when I first posted on here out of desperation! It does get easier.

We started a bedtime routine early on too - nothing rigid - feed, bath, massage, last feed in a quiet room and settled to bed. This really helped DD to sleep longer too.

I think at 3 weeks nightime waking, BF problems and wind are all common and they do pass. I haven't used infacol on DD for a couple of weeks now, she'll regularly do a 5 hour stretch of sleep at nught before waking to feed and BF is going well.

I know how horrible it is having such little sleep and I think you're doing well to post on here after 45 mins sleep! Hang in there, it does get better! x
