How much exercise does your 4 year old do over and above general running around?

Ds has recently turned 4 and is very active at nursery full time during the week but exhausted by the weekend so we spend time either visiting family or the library, drawing, painting and general painting etc. I dont actively encourage him to physically exercise as such ie. football, trampolining etc because I think he needs the time to wind down. As a result I wonder whether he is getting enough exercise by just being a normal pre-schooler running around or whether he needs some more active exercise. I do find that he gets a stitch quite easily
if we walk quickly anywhere and it just made me wonder whether I should be prioritising a bit more exercise. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I still think that it probably would be good to get out for a walk or play in the park at the weekends - ideally both days, but certainly at least one. Most children benefit from going out and having a bit of a run round.

Out of interest, ds can happily walk a good 4 miles without complaining of being tired etc - quite a lot of this will be at a good run too.

Were you asking me, bodiddly? Yes, he needs a lot of exercise. He's like a jumping bean. It's exhausting just watching him . Even at less than three he goes swimming once a week, gym twice a week and usually one trip to soft play or trampolining if he is very lucky. As well as at least one trip to the park most days. I'm not quite sure how two plump unsporty parents spawned such a physically able child.

And no, his physical needs are not normal! My friends are sympathetic when they're not laughing.
