my little girl is 4 1/2, my only child and is the only girl in a family of little boys. she is a very clever little girl and notices everything. She refuses to wear girls clothes, thats not just dresses or skirts its anything girly, tea shirts, trousers, green, pink blue!! she seems to want to live in a horrible pair of trousers and wear the same red t shirt everyday, she refuses to wear underwear (god im a rubbish mum arent i) so my question is what do i do???? she genuinely wont wear nice clothes she tantrums, screams, sulks and gets very distressed if i force her to wear something she doesnt like, i dont know if she is a little insecure because she also says people will laugh at her if they see them!! i can handle this for a couple of days but it breaks my heart to see her so sad at having to wear something she hates... pls help me!!

My mum wanted me to wear girl clothes and I refused for about 5 years - I looked like a boy totally and utterly. I absolutely hated dresses. If my mum ever forced me to dress up I felt terrible all the day.

I then hit teens and changed my mind and then my mum spent 5 years trying to get me to wear skirts that werent quite as short.

The more you push the more she will rebel.

I actively cringe when i see little girls all pinked and sparkled up.

that said the no knicker thing would be a bit of a but just stop offering them for a few days then leave them out but dont mention anything.

She may or may not end up a girly girl, but jsut enjoy her as she is!

I was the same with ds1. he just wanted to wear the same pair of trousers and the same two or three t shirts all the time.
He freaked if I tried to get him to wear anything else. parties were terrible.
When he learned to dress himself he started to go to the drawers and choose his own, and gradually it wasn't the same old things.
He just wanted to decide for himself.
DS2 I am sure I only avoided the same thing because he copies his brother and pulls his own choice out of the drawers every morning for me to put on him.

Sometimes my boys are a fashion disaster, but they've chosen what they want to wear so I think the decision making process is good for them.

And for those of you who worry that your dds look like cavemen.. we have just come out the other side of ds1's pink phase...

Take her clothes shopping and let her pick. Then she will have nice non scruffy clothes that she likes to wear. She wins and so do you.

good for her. She doesn't need to be a Disney princess. And let's face it, pink is yuk on many people.

Many many years ago when I was a lass, I had very curly hair which my parents cut to the quick. i looked like a boy, dressed like a boy and acted like one. loved it. of course I have long curly hair now...

Will she wear white, red, turquoise, green, yellow, orange, burgandy, teal, mustard, marroon etc? You can get lots of girls clothes in those colours. She doesn't have to wear pink and purple!

i took your advice and went shopping today, she picked out some tops of her own and they werent that bad! we had a chat about girls clothes and decided to bag them all up to give to the charity shop for girls who want to be girls!! it sounds daft but i never actually thought i should embrace it, i was too busy worrying about it and now im hoping for a stress free life!! thank you all xx
