My sister is just off the phone and asked if my DS's teeth have been painted with fluoride- I've never heard of this and noone has ever mentioned it (ie HV etc). Is she talking rubbish???

She also said she is brushing her DD's gums with toothpaste although she has no teeth yet- I said I didn't think she needed her gums brushed but she said that she was told that you can still get tooth decay even if you don't have any teeth Who's correct here??????????

DD is 3.8 and has just had her teeth painted with flouride ...

Pruners, we probably do, but DS2 had his teeth done though the nursery. It was called "dental smile nursery" scheme. He goes to a nursery joined to the school. All the children had their teeth done and were given the obligatory sticker. TBH, DS2 was not impressed and wanted to brush his teeth as soon as he got home but you have to leave the flouride on overnight. He was not a happy bunny.

My dad's teeth all went bad from having experimental flouride painting. Most children in the UK do not have fillings in childhood either, but some teeth problems seem to be more about genetics than anything else. There is still a fair bit of controversy about flouridation in the water supply. When I worked in public health they were very pro (it was an inner city area with high levels of teeth decay in children) but there are issues about high levels. Most of the UK does not have flouridated water.

actually...I think a big problem might be, when people have tthe habit to share saliva...by sucking a dummy clean after it fell on the floor, licking a spon, tha kind f thing...it's going to give your karie to the other person...dh and I both haven't got great teeth, but due to kids puking lots we never got into the habit of doing above...all 3 boys have grea teeth...

whereabouts in Scotland is it done? the dentist never mentioned it when we were there in January. we live just outside Glasgow. Also he said just to use a children's toothpaste as an adult one has too much fluoride.

i personally think how strong your teeth are is partly down to your genes. I'd never had any dental work until i was 34 and then it was only a seal put over one tooth. i've never even heart of fluoride seals

Seona1973 · 15/03/2009 14:27

p.s. I am also in Scotland (North Lanarkshire)

Blottedcopybook · 15/03/2009 14:34

I'm in EK, Scotland and haven't heard of this teeth being painted with fluoride thing. DS2 & I have fluorosis though so I wouldn't let my other DCs have it done.
