Pleeeease help me get DD2 to go to sleep

DD2 (2.8) is lying in bed shouting and singing at the top if her voice.

I have been going up and down the stairs to try to get her to settle since 8pm.

Any suggestions what I can do next to get the little blighter to go to sleep? The only other option is to put her in the shed if she doesn't stop.

is this a one off tonight or a constant thing?

FatController · 07/03/2009 22:22

What is her bedtime routine?

IfAtFirstYouDontSucceed · 07/03/2009 22:49

Hi sorry, I was just upstairs again.

Her routine is:-

Bath 7:30pm
Bed with story 8pm

Then I usually give her a kiss and cuddle and come back downstairs. She will gemerally go to sleep after 20 mins or so, but tonight is madness.

She must be worn out.

As long as she is actually in bed and not upset then I would probably just leave her, surely she will wear herself out eventually!

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 23:00

I have 3 girls and the middle one is a nightmare constantly

our routine starts a lot earlier than yours though. bath at about 6.30 and into bed by 7 or 7.30

could she be overtired tonight for some reason?

FatController · 08/03/2009 06:56

I think you will just have to leave her in bed... and hope you get a nice lie in in the morning

pootle1803 · 08/03/2009 16:45

Sorry, but how do you "leave" a toddler in bed? Mine (2.10) just goes exactly where he wants to be. Even climbs over stair gates! And certainly can't be told to stay where he is. Bit confused by this advice.

chickenmama · 08/03/2009 17:36

I always find the best thing to do if my dd doesn't sleep straight away and starts messing about is sit at the end of her bed - she won't get out as I'm already there and usually drops off within minutes

dizzydixies · 08/03/2009 22:27

pootle, in this case I find a nail gun is invaluable through the pyjamas though

IfAtFirstYouDontSucceed · 08/03/2009 23:16

Thank you all very much for you advice. She finally dropped off at 11:30pm.

She is a constant nightmare at bedtimes, so i feel the nail gun may well be the way to go.

In all seriousness though, i think I will try moving bed time routine forward an hour to see if that helps.

(It was 10:00pm she caved tonight).
