DD has been walking for 7 months and runs round the house but at the park i see kids her age climbing up the highest slide and coming down by themselves, climbing all round the climbing frames and climbing back down again.
dd can climb a couple of steps standing up but then leans backwards so if i wasnt there she would fall off, if she gets to the top of a slide she carries on walking instead of sitting down and on the slide she falls back and hits her head.
she cant climb on the settee but if she gets on by standing on something she launches herself off when she knows how to slide off feet first.
its like she has no sense of danger/edges,
is this normal?

How are her speech and langauge skills, social skills etc?

DD2 is 20 months and does this but she is a handful, DD1 was more placid and a bit more cautious so didnt really do stuff like this till she was @ 3

her speech and language are good i think, she says mommy i sliding, mommy i climbing, dds turn asliding etc so i know what she is talking about.
she is sociable with children but a little bit cautious, with cling to me a bit. she likes 1-2-1 attention from adults and likes showing off.

my ds is just like this, they are so similar!! ds is 19 months and although he walked at 11 months he has no sense of danger what-so-ever! I can climb on the sofa and does frequently. He doesn't want to sit on it like most children, he wants to climb on to the arms or the back and perch like a cat.... then has an enormoustantrum when I get him off or insist that he sits properly.

He could never go on a big slide or clibing frame, he'd fall off deffinitely. He can manage those slides at soft play centres though. We only started taking him a couple of months ago but has managed to master climbing up and sensibly coming down the slide on his tummy.

He is lethal around the house, running, climbing. One day last week me and dh found that he had climbed up the armchair, on to the back of it, clambered onto the window sill wehich is pretty high and was just stood there waving at the dog outside. I nearly had a heart attack.

He can't even be trusted on beds, he wriggles and rolls about and seems to have no idea where the edge of the bed is. I was wondering if this was normal too! He is just never still, always wriggling, climbing, running etc. I hear about kids of his age sat on the sofa watching entire episodes of In the Night Garden and I'm amazed, ds is just not into sitting still at all!!! He would rather risk his life to climb the book shelf instead .

That said, he is the sweetest, most affectionate little boy so i can't complain too much! He wears himself out that much in the day that he sleeps like a log for 12-13 hours a night so i am very lucky but he will be the death of me!

hi meandjoe, havent seen you in ages [waves]
i wish dd slept like that, we are lucky if she does 10 hours and she wakes during that time too.
she is awake now running laps round and round downstairs shouting i crazy, i jumping, i running etc etc. she runs and runs till she drops asleep.
dd is the same on the settee, she is never on the cushion, she is hanging off the back or the arm headfirst.
at soft play she is too small to climb into the ballpool so just throws herself through the opening. does your ds come down slides on his tummy feet first? we tried this but dd couldnt get herself in position and the toddler sections are a bit tight for us to get in.
